We do not know aheti Hie Sun
has taken greater pleasure in
cording the progress of Alvin than
it has in telling of the recent move
on the part of our city fathers to
have a cleaner tow n. Now the
filth that collects on the streets
is picked up and hauled off every
day. This accumalation mikes a
most exccellent feitelizer for gar-
dens and fields and finds ready
sale, In time the price received
for it will pay for the cost of re-
mot ing it from the streets The
good accomplished is already very
manifest. This is the greatest step
yet taken toward a greater Alvin.

If an object lesson on the benefit
of good roads is needed, we have
only to look on that portion of
Sealy street which is graded up
and shelled that now, since the
sun has shined out, is high and
dry, and then turn ojr gaze to the
other portion, which is a loblolly
of stiff mud. Not being on the
inside, we do not know wheather
it can be done but if it can be done
we hope that the streets in the
business part of town will be fixed
so that the people will not be com-
pelled to bog in the rand to trans-
act business.
Most parents did not have the
advantages of a Business Training
at their door, and are not satisfied
to see their sons ar d daughters go
through life as they have without
this training.
They want to see their sons be-
come bright-eyed, ieen, alert busi-
ness men, able to figure rapidly
and accurately, to spell well, to
write a good hand; to be able to
draw up notes, deeds and mort-
gages. They want to see them
in business for themseives, or on a
good salary as bookkeeper or office
manager.
They want to see their daugh-
ters obtain a salary-earning educa-
tion that will make them indepen-
dent, or that will enable them to
use wisely anything which they
might have bequeathed to them.
They want their daughters .o have
an insurance against any misfor-
tune which might comi.
It is to this class of parents that
SAN ANTONIO BUSINESS
COLLEGE appeals most strongly.
Send us that son and tliat
daughter, aud if there is a man in
the boy or a business woman in
the girl, we will surely develop it.
Write today for catalogue, terms
and pictures of successful gradu-
ates. Address H. C. Mitchell,
President San Antonio Business
College, San Antonio, Texas.

Evjrry night!itely the mosquitoes ! day of said month,
have (run a number of cattle
town, and some of the boys
ceived the idea of having some fun
out of them, which they did and
a large number of people of
both sexes beside, who assembled
to see it. They would round up
a herd under the arc light between
Sealyi and Hirdee ‘streets, and
catching one, a calf cow or steer,
as the case might be, one of the
boys would mount it without
bridle or saddle aud ride it to a
finish. Each rider acquitted him
self well, but the championship be-
longs to Armour Saveli and Ed
Coldqn. They rode Three and
four year olds that for bawling
and high pitching, leaving the
earth and coming down on all four
feet, beat any bronco that ever bif

Talk about your rough riders!
Colonel Roosevelt never saw any,
if he has never been in Alvin.
By the inadv ertant dropping of

“Build a wt ll around Texas and
we would starve to death” aays
the Brazoria Banner. This pessi-
mistic assertion must have eminat
ed from the et.itors brain liecause
of the excessi-e humidity he has
been laboringtmderthe past month,
but is it a fact? It is far from a
fact. It is true that we consume
largely outside products, not be-
cause we must but because we pre-
fer to. Suppose a wail should be
built around Texas? Then necess-
ity would compel us to produce
what we do not now, and there is
hardly a thing except some of the
luxuries that we cannot produce
in great abundance, a hundred
times more than the people can
consume. For bread, we can raise
all thecerials; for meat, cattle, hogs
sheep, goats aud every variaty of
domestic fowls, and for clothes and
raiment that which the world de-
pends upon more than any other
article of com sumption, cotton.
Except being deprived of coffee
tea and chocolate, we could liye
just as royally as we do novs. It
would Ire a good thing for the peo-
ple to have a wall thrown around
them for a while, a year or twe, for
then they would realize, and take
advantage of their wonderful re-
sources, aud would see then,
what SQjBany of them seem unable
to see now, how greatly it would
add to their welfare and prospers,
if they would manufacture it hol^B^^^arrows N:w in tta. SuJan.
