4 Weeks to Medicare An-
nual/Open Enrollment
Toni:
Last year, I made a mistake
and changed to a Medicare
Advantage PPO because I
understood from talking with
my friends that this PPO plan
was like a Medicare supple-
ment. I want out! Most spe-
cialists and even the facility
that does MRIs are out of net-
work and this is costing me a
fortune.
I’ve been advised to return
to Traditional Medicare.
Is Traditional Medicare dif-
ferent than Original Medi-
care?
Advise how I can return to
Medicare.

For you to di senroll from
a Medicare Advantage com-
pany, all you need to do is
enroll in a Medicare Prescrip-
tion Drug plan that fits your
needs. You will automatically
be out of your old Medicare
Advantage plan and back to
“Original Medicare” with a
Medicare Prescription Drug
plan; then you can apply for a
Medicare supplement to pick
up what Medicare does not
pay for.
Concerned you have health
issues which can keep you
from qualifying with a Medi-
care supplement’s applica-
tion? Don’t worry; there are
protections in place for this
type of situation.
The Medicare rule from
page 103 of the 2016 Medi-
care & You Handbook is: “If
you join a Medicare Advan-
tage Plan for the first time,
and you aren’t happy with
the plan, you’ll have special
rights to buy a Medigap pol-
icy if you return to Original
Medicare within 12 months of
joining.” Medicare rules con-
cerning this issue are on page
103.
Below are the changes that
a Medicare beneficiary can
make to their Medicare plans
during Medicare Annual En-
rollment:
• Enroll in a new Part D
Medicare Prescription Drug
Plan, which automatically
disenrolls one from a Medi-
care Advantage plan.
• Enroll in a new Part D

The Memorial Hermann Pre-
vention and Recovery Center
will hold its 11th Annual Ride for
Recovery Sunday, Sept. 25. The
organized motorcycle ride, which
covers nearly 100 miles of scenic
roadway, is held in recognition
of National Recovery Month and
donates all proceeds to local ad-
diction treatment facilities.
The Ride for Recovery is also
a way of educating the com-
munity about addiction and re-
moving some of the shame and
stigma attached to the disease,
said Matt Feehery, senior vice
president and CEO, Memorial
Hermann Prevention & Recov-
ery Center.
Dozens of motorcycle enthusi-
asts - including members of the
Thin Blue Line, a law enforce-
ment motorcycle club whose
members are active duty or re-
tired law enforcement officers
from a variety of agencies and
jurisdictions - will participate in
this year’s ride. Last year, more
than 100 riders participated in
the event.
“The ride is an opportunity to
highlight the road to recovery
from alcoholism and drug abuse,
while also raising funds for or-
ganizations actively involved in
helping people to recover and
get their lives back on track,”
Feehery said. “There are many
positive stories of redemption
and recovery in the Houston
that
and
are the
medical
Medicare

Medicare.”
Medicare Annual/Open En-
rollment will be your only
time to make that change.
And it is simple for you to
enroll in Original/Traditional
Medicare and a new Medicare
Supplement (without having
to answer questions) only be-
cause this is your first year
to be out of your Medicare
Supplement or your first year
to pick a Medicare Advantage
Plan.

community. This ride is one way
of saluting their recovery.”
A first of its kind in the Hous-
ton area, the Ride for Recovery
has raised more than $85,000 in
support of local recovery pro-
grams and operations since it
began. The event is organized by
PaRC and the PaRC Alumni As-
sociation and has been attended
by as many as 100 motorcyclists
and non-bikers, who are also in-
vited to show their support. This
year’s donations will go to sup-
port The ReCenter and AWay
Out Women’s Center.
There is still time to regis-
ter for the Ride for Recovery.
Onsite registration will open at
7:30 a.m. on ride day. The ride
begins at 9 a.m. at PaRC, located
at 3043 Gessner (3 miles north
of I-10 and 1 mile east of Belt-
way 8, between Kempwood and
Clay on Gessner). The ride route
will take motorcyclists through
parts of Harris, Montgomery and
Waller counties and return to
PaRC, where lunch, live music,
and door prizes will be waiting.
Sponsorship still available.
Registration prior to the event
is $30 per person and $50 per
couple. Same-day registration
is $35 per person and $60 per
couple.
Those who are unable to at-
tend the event, but wish to make
a contribution, can do so online
or by phone at 713-329-7272.
Dear Jeremy:
You will be happy to know
“Original Medicare”
“Traditional Medicare”
same thing, but the
profession knows
as “Traditional”
not “Original
in our community are places of
healing, just as the hospital is,
and we feel a partnership with
these sacred spaces. This semi-
nar - with its very important
message - is one way we can
help support and sustain them.”
The League City Police De-
partment provides training on
active shooter situations to help
protect citizens from violence
in settings such as schools, of-
fices, and places of worship. The
seminar will cover a broad range
of related topics for clergy and
others, including how to prepare
for such an emergency, how to
react should a situation arise and
more.
The seminar is free, but seat-
ing is limited, and RSVPs are
encouraged. To reserve a spot,
