ly, and eventually, a family friend
set up a Gofundme account. The
goal of $15,000 was exceeded
extremely within days. As of Sept. 15, there
has been $26,053 raised from
more than 250 donors. Several
of those were from Saint Mary’s
tendent Buck Gilcrease gave his
annual state of the district presen-
tation to members of the Alvin-
Manvel Area Chamber of Com-
merce during a monthly luncheon.
He began his speech talking about
Lightfoot.
“Chase was one of our outstand-
ing students,” Gilcrease said. “The
goodness of people comes out dur-
ing tough times.”
Among those who prayed for
the Lightfoot family during the
luncheon were Darren Shelton,
pastor of Hope Tabernacle, and
Scot Bryant, Alvin ISD’s commu-
nity and staff ambassador, who is
also a chaplain.
Shelton provided the invocation
for the food and mentioned Light-
foot. He said this was a time to re-
member the young man for who he
was as a person - son, friend, stu-
dent, athlete - and a reminder of how
precious and short life can be.
Bryant said in part: “God, as the
family tries to figure out what a
new normal looks like, I pray that
you surround them wholeheart-
edly, hold them close.”
According to the Bexar County
Medical Examiner, Lightfoot had
an abnormal heart condition and
died from complications of aber-
rant arteries.
