MANVEL - Nothing like an
inside the park home run to get
a team going in the postseason.
Senior outfielder Ariyon
Woodard pulled off the feat
to lead off the bottom of the
first inning for hosting Manvel
and the Lady Mavericks never
looked back, rolling to a 13-0
shutout over Houston North-
side in the Class 5A bi-district
softball playoffs Friday night.
Freshman Sydney Macias
and junior Alayna Pippin com-
bined on a five-hitter in the
pitching circle, while Woodard
and sophomore catcher Bri-
anna Garcia sparked the 13-hit
Manvel attack with three RBI’s
apiece and junior Alexis Uresti
also chipped in three hits.
Delivering big offensive
numbers is nothing new for
feat to the Mustangs April 28 at
Nolan Ryan Field.
Marc Euna went the distance
on the mound for the Yellow-
jackets, striking out nine and al-
lowing only one walk. Spencer
Ouellete provided an RBI single
and Drew Smith had a bases-
loaded walk to account for both
Alvin runs in the fourth inning.
Manvel, who averaged nine runs
a game during the regular season
and was coming off a eight-run
sixth-inning rally to top Texas
City 10-7 to earn the runner-up
seed April 21 at home.
“I’m really proud of the girls.
We started (the season) up and
down. I really didn’t know them
and they didn’t know me. We
had to figure ourselves out,”
said Eady Mavs’ first-year head
coach Skip Dunham, whose

through the first half of district,
they bought into what I was
