CONGENITALLY MISSING TEETH
When teeth are missing as a result of failing to develop
at birth, it is referred to as hypodontia. The most common
congenitally missing teeth are the wisdom teeth (25-35
percent), followed by the permanent upper lateral incisors
(two percent), and the second premolars (three percent The
problem this condition poses is that it removes a tooth from
the dental arch that normally keeps adjacent teeth in their
proper places. For instance, when the upper lateral incisors
are missing, the canine (cuspid or “eye”) teeth are apt to
move toward the central incisors to fill the gap. In order to
identify and deal effectively with such dental abnormalities,
it is important to have regular dental checkups.
Don’t let dental abnormalities keep you from smiling,
chewing, talking, and just generally enjoying life. There
are many strategies available today to solve the problems
caused by missing teeth. We’ll be happy to discuss which
ones would be best for your circumstances. Office hours
are by appointment at 1701 Fairway Plaza, Suite 20, on
Highway 35 By-Pass - call 281-331-0020 or visit us at

to appear within families and also may be influenced by
environmental factors.

Renae Rives, communications
director for the district, said
district employees were busy
early Wednesday morning
determining if conditions were
safe before making the call. She
explained district employees
had a call with the state’s Office
of Emergency Management at 3
a.m. and then had members of
the Transportation Department

before deciding to close schools.
“There’s a lot that goes into it,
and it’s not an easy decision to

With the drier conditions
Wednesday night, Alvin ISD
decided to have school Thursday.
But when weather forecasts
called for heavy rain early in the
afternoon, the district decided to

heavy rain mixed with
occasional winds led to some
localized problems in the Alvin

neighborhoods reported power

were reported.
During the downpour
Thursday, the biggest problems
popped up with several roads
closed due to flooding in Alvin
and bigger problems reported in
Manvel. On Highway 6 in
Manvel, the road began to flood
forcing some lanes to be closed.
On Tuesday night, several
area school districts announced
closings for Wednesday, but
Alvin ISD waited until about 5

for the day. Alvin ISD tried to

Rives said Alvin ISD has
many autistic children in school,
as well as students with other
physical and emotional issues.
She said the district works to
make sure every child can learn
and be successful in school.
“We have programs for every
single child,” she said. “We
individualize for every child as
best we can.”
The moment of kindness
garnered a lot of attention
locally and nationwide. Stories
on McCool and Kenlee were run

Ultimately, safety of students
and employees is the deciding
factor, Rives said.
“If we’re having to put our
students in harm’s way, we don’t
want to do that,” Rives said.
“We also have to consider our
employees. Some of them drive
a long way to get to work.”
In addition to Alvin ISD, ACC
also closed all of its campuses
