We learn at a late hour that L. R. Johnson, defeated
candidate for sheriff by 17 votes, has filed a protest with
the officials of the Tax Payers' Union and wi’l ask for a;
lecount. Also E. H. Mays, defeated by 7 votes as commis {
sioner in West Columbia precinct, has filed a complaint!
asking for a recount. Until their requests are acted upon I
by the association, these two offiies are in doubt as it wi’l1
probably take a recount to satisffy.

The boom brought about by the leasing of land and
selling of royalty around Alvin last week brought many
thousands of new dollars into the channels of trade in At-1
