Burleson could soon be home to a
third automobile dealership following
the City Council’s action on Thursday
night.
The Council approved a request for
a specific use permit for automobile
sales in a commercial zoning district.
The area falls within the I-35 overlay
district, and includes 10.0864 acres

The Burleson Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon at the Lookin’ Sharp Salon, 125 N. Wilson
St. The fire was contained to the attic area. Personnel used saws to cut holes in the roof to vent the thick, gray smoke.
Shown (from top) is Lt. Claude Scally, Jake Hopps and Chuck Sharp as they work to extinguish the fire.

W on Tuesday for a spe-

■ to share their
J thoughts on impor-
tant issues.
Representatives
Rob Orr (R-
Burleson), Bill Zedler (R-
Arlington), Dan Flynn (R-Van), and
Linda Harper-Brown (R-Irving),
hosted the town hall meeting along
with the Texas Conservative
Coalition. John Colyantro, repre-
sentative for TCC, moderated the
discussion for the evening.
“We had a great response,” Orr
said. “We had between 60 and 70
and citizens at the meeting and
about 80 percent of those were
from Johnson County.”
The two primary issues dis-
cussed were illegal immigration
and voter identification, according
to Verlie Edwards, Orr’s chief of
staff. The representatives took
questions from the audience and
discussed the issues at length.
“There was a great deal of inter-
action between the attendees and
representatives,” Edwards said.
During the discussion on illegal
immigration, the general consensus
was support of the federal govern-
ment taking a more active role in
illegal immigration, according to
Orr.
“(There was) very strong support

Curbside recycling is
catching on in Burleson, but
it has spawned a new prob-
lem.
Recent high winds have
spread the materials placed
at curbside across neighbor-
hoods.
“The city of Burleson’s
public works employees can
do a lot of things, but they
can’t rope the wind, and the
winds have not been cooper-
ative lately,” said Sally
Ellertson, a city spokesper-
son. “Wind and curbside
recycling materials have
resulted in litter on neigh-
borhood streets in
Burleson.”
The city has a suggestion
or two to help stem the
spread of debris.
“Before you set your
bright green recycling bin at
the curb, check the weather
forecast,” said Ellertson. “If
the day is a wind advisory
day, Red Flag Day, or the
wind will exceed 20 miles
per hour, consider taking
that bin back inside until
your next collection day.”
The city is also offering
lids for the bins free of
charge. The lids are avail-
able, on your request, from
the public works depart-
ment located at 1675 John
Jones Road.
“This option should help
keep the materials inside the
bins; however, during high
wind events, the bins may
still be blown down the
