ing by the historic oak located at
the La Grange State Bank cornor,
knocked a limb out of the tree.
Please take care—this oak is one
"of La Grange's most priceless pos-
sessions.
John P. Vacula, caretaker of
the Historic Monument Hill State
Park for the past five years, left
his post on Wednesday, Nov. 30,

tive* This is determined en-
tirely by the external appear-
ance of the pecans as they are
displayed.
Best Kernels This is determined
by the appearance and, condi-
tion of the kernels after they
are separated from the shells.
Most attractive pecan. This Is
determined entirely by the ex-
ternal Hp|>ea rance of the pe-
cans as they are displayed.
The show will be open to the
public from 2:30 to 5:30 p. m..
and the public is invited to attend
at such time and look over the
entries in the show.
MR. AND MRS. E. T. CARBY,
2118 l-’ulton St. , Houston, observ-
ed their 50th wedding anniversary
Wednesday, Nov. 30. The Carbys
who have lived in Houston for 43
years, were married in La Grange
on Nov. 30, 1910. Mr. Carby is
a retired Steel worker, having
worked for Arueco Steel Corp, for

Santa Claus arrives in La Gran
on Thursday afternoon, Dec.
at 2:30 p. m. He will be ushered
into the city by the La Grange
Hjgh school band.
After the parade, Santa will be
at his gift headquarters on the north
side of the square.
Santa will talk to as many youngs-
ters as possible, giving out small
gifts of goodies and balloons as he
does so. There will be a large
mailbox on the site where child-
ren may leave their letters to &n-
ta.
Santa will also be in town at his
headquarters on Dec. 10 and 17.
Fayetteville, a rural high district
and common districts or Cistern,
Hostyn, and Praha also showed de-
creases this year.
DAY OF RECOLLECTION
A Day of Recollection for all
Catholic women from all surroun-
dingparishes will be held Sunday,
Dec. 11, from 2 to 4:30 p. m. at
Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Frels-
burg.

tion. The event will most likely
be held in early 1961.
Reports revealed that member-
ship collections had been very
good during the month, that the
savings account had passed the
thousand dollar mark and that
$66.21 had been added to the

The Fayette County commissio-
ners met Friday, Dec. and
authorized the county auditor to
advertise forbids for county print-
ing and drug needs for the ensuing
calendar year, court house and
Ag building janitor services for
1960, and for a county health of-
ficer for the coming two years.
All offers should be at tne audi-
tor's office by 10 a. m. on Satur-
day, Dec. 31.
Also authorized was the cashing
of $8,400 in government bonds
held by the permanent school fund,
and re-investing the proceeds in
government securities.
Another $5, 000 in cash on hand
in the fund was also authorized to
be invested in new government
bonds.

Congratualtions to Mr. and Mrs.
James Freudenberg, new parents
of a boy, 7 pounds, 4 ounces.
Bruce Eaward was also welcomed
by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Edmund Harbers of La Grange and
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Steglich of
Bartlett.
Mrs. Freudenberg (Nettie Mae)
is Fayette County's H. D. Agent.
Here's one for the records: Joe
P. Hart, felled all point mule
deer while hunting on the Jack
Rawls Ranch at Marfa. The deer,
which Mr. Hart killed on Saturday,
is V. O. "Buck" Burgess.
Mr. Burgess and his wife moved
to La Grange in January, 1956.
They managed two restaurants, af-
ter Mr. Burgess became an in-
surance salesman for States Gen-
eral Life Insurance Company in
1958. Mrs. Burgess is a nurse at
Fayette Memorial Hospital.

left out of the story is Mrs. Hart--
she killed an 8 pointer on the Stuart
Ranch in Zavala County, her deer
dressed 132 pounds. Pretty good,
we say!
D. X. Bible, Director of Athle-
tics at the University of Texas will
be the main speaker at the All -
Sports Banquet on Jan. 21, it was
announced at the La Grange Jaycee
Banquet on Jan. 21.
The announcement was made by
the committee consisting of Daniel
Freytag, Fritz Lobpries, and Aub-
rey "Red" Voelkel.
The banquet will be held in the
Hermes School Cafeteria and tic-
kets for the event will be $1.25
per person. Advance sales will be
made.
Another highlight of the banquet
will be the presentation of a re-
volving trophy to the most out-
standing athlete.
Since the present trophy is filled
31 years. with names> the Junior Chamber

The Fayette County pecan show
is to be held in La Grange at
tie Agricultural Building Tues-
dayt Dec. 20 County Agent
Clinton R. Bippert announced.
All entries - must be in by 9
a. m. Tuesday, and judging will
start at that time. Entries are to
be entered and left at the County
Agent’s office. County Agricultu-
ral Building in La Grange, or at
Leo Jares Feed and Produce
Store in Schulenburg.
This show is sponsored by the
Fayette County Pecan Growers
Association. All entries must be
from the 1960 crop.
Pecans must be grown by the
person exhibiting them.
The best entry in each class
will be entered in the State Show
to be held at A & M College on

turned out to view the new motor
bank of The First National Bank of
La Grange at an open house held
Friday and Saturday.
The new motor bank is located
in the 100 block of North Jefferson
Street.
Those visiting the new building
were given an opportunity to see
the pneumatic tube system which
connects the motor and main bank
in operation.
Punch and cookies were served
and souveniers were also given.
Winners of the three time cer-
tificates were O. Hoclter, $100. :
Willie Marshall of Plum, $50. ;
and Robert Herbrich of Rt. 3,
$25.
