A man with no formal high school
education, B. E. Schulze, assoc-
iate professor of physics at Del
Mar College, is one of the winners
of the “Piper Professorship” a-
wards, for 1963.
Schulze is the second teacher at
Del Mar in the past three years
to receive the award. The other is
Mrs. Katherine Evans.
Selection of the 10 awards, given
from 200 entries, was announced
yesterday by C. F. McCauley of
Corpus Christi, president of the
Minnie Stevens piper Foundation.
Going with the awards is a check
for $1,000 to the chosen professors
at Texas colleges and universities.
Schulze, of 534 Ohio, was born
on a Fayette County farm in 1896,
eldest of seven children. He att-
ended a community school and at
17, passed the county-administ-
ered seventh grade exam, becom-
ing eligible for high school. The
nearest such school was several
miles away, making home study ne-

Funeral services for Larkin
John Koehl, 55, were held Tuesday
morning, January 7, at 9:15 at the
Jecmenek Chapel in Ellinger and
continued at the St. Mary’s Cath-
olic Church at Hostyn Hill.Burial
was in the church cemetery with
The Rev. Francis Kolar officiating.
Mr. Koehl died at the Fayette Me-
morial Hospital Sunday afternoon.
Born on Sept. 25, 1908 at Hal-
stead, the deceased was a son of
the late Lee and Mary Koehl. He
married the former Leona Pec-
ashek on Nov. 14, 1950 at Hostyn
Hill.
Surviving are his widow, a son
Emil, four brothers, Alvin, Milton,
Harold, and Lee Roy, all of the
Ellinger vicinity, and two sisters,
Mrs. Glenton (Bernice) Gaertner
and Mrs. Henry (Mary Lee) Fr-
iemel of La Grange.
Becides his parents, he was
preceded in death by a brother.

mas eve spent in Houston, visit-
ing with their children Eugene,
Forres, and Bernice and their
families, gathered around the Ch-
ristmas tree singing Christmas
songs and distributing gifts after
attending church services on Ch-
ristmas morning, they enjoyed a

The Junior Lutherans of
Johns Warrenton enjoyed their an-
nual Christmas party on Saturday
afternoon, Dec. 21. The afternoon
was begun by going to the Fay-
ette Memorial Hospital to sing
Christmas carols, and to deliver
tray favors for the patients.

the University of Texas in Aus-
tin, served on the staff of rhe
Corpus Christi Caller-Times from
1938-1940.

front seat belts, an alternator electrical sys-
tem, self-adjusting brakes and a 225 cubic
inch, six-cylinder engine. It will go 32,000
miles between major grease jobs, 4,000 miles
between oil changes.
