The Baxter home was beau-
tifully decorated for the golden
wedding event. Traditional
colors .n goid and white were
used to decorate and golden
daffodils and white stock form-
ed the centerpiece for the lace-
laid refreshment table.
A crystal punch service, along
with other crystal and silver
appointments, was on the table
with the decorated cake.
Mrs. George Baxter Jr., and
Mrs. Beaty presided at the
table while Mrs. Patty and Mrs.
Waltrip welcomed the guests
and presided at the registry.
Spring flowers of daffodils
and chrysanthemums were used
at vantage points throughout
the reception rooms.
Mr. ar d Mrs. Baxter are not
quite native Alvinites but they
have been here long enough
to consider themselves almost
so! Mrs. Baxter moved here
from Tennessee when she was
three years old and when Mr.
Baxter was 11 years old, he left
Iowa for Texas.
The couple was married in Al-
vin and for a year they lived
'in town.’’ But 49 years ago,
they moved to the country . . .
that's what Blackstone Street
was then.’. Ironically, he town
followed thorn and without
moving again, they’ve become
city dwellers in spite of them-
selves!

five years ago, Mr Baxter was

The Patco Lumber Company
has begun construction of their
1 new Home Supply Center and
hope to have it completed some-
time early in June, said Pat
Patterson.
The owners, Patterson, Carl
B Ware and Hubert C. Wood,
all of Alvin, feel that the pre-
sent location does not have
adequate space to serve cus-
tomers and carry the merchan-
dise desired by the people of
Alvin.
With the new building, Patco
will have approximately 5,700
square feet of sales area and
about 1,000 square feet of of-
fice space, completedy air con-
ditioned.
To the rear of the store build-
ing, there will be about 8.000
square feet of storage area,
with some 4,000 square feet
of this area for lumber storage.
Mr. Patterson said the new
building, the opening date of
