DEAR MISTER EDITOR:
:The fellers at the country
store Saturday night discussed
the situation up one side and
down the other, and they come
up with a ruling that power be-
hind everthing in this old world
boils down to striking a balance
between supply and demand.
They got on the subject after
Zeke Grubb give tr report where
serious plans are being made to
tow icebergs to Africa.
Zeke said Sawdi Arabia is no
thing but sand floating on oil,
but the folks there can’t drink
oil. All they can do is sellit fer
whatever they want to charge.
So they got barrels of money,
but their water barrel is dry.
They come up with he idee of
spending a few barrels of mon-
ey to hire big tugboats to pull
icebergs all the way down to
their ports. They would melt it
down, pipe it ashore and store
it They figger it would be cheap
er than trying to take the salt
out of sea water s othey could
drink it. Zeke said whoever can
pull off this little job for the
Arabs probable would be in a
good postition to bargin fer
Arab oil, and you got the old
power play right there.
When you git right down"to
the botom line, Zeke allowed,
\ve can do without oil, but we
got to have water. Zeke said
that at a meeting last month in
Argentina, del
countries agree
biggest issues facing people,
cities, states and countires is
who gits the water. Ybu can be
rich in money, like the Arabs,
Zeke said, but without water
you’re poor.
The fellers .were agreed that
assigning the natural resources
is a world problem, and Ed
Doolittle said we are as guilty
as any country of playing poli-
tics with these resources. Fer
instant, Ed said we won’t buy
crome from Rodesia, that needs
the trade, because we want to
force them to run the country
the way we think they ought to.
So we make deals fer crome
with Russia, that not only wants
to make slaves of the world, it
keeps its own people scared to
breathe fer fear of jail or worse
Just recent, went on Ed, a
feller thought to be behind the
killing of Lsreael athletes at the,
1972 Olympics was arrested in
France. Instead of turning him
over to Germany, whfere the
murders took place, or to Isreal
(or trial, France shipped* him
back to a hero’s welcome in Al-
geria. The French know their
politics. They didn’t want to get
• crossways with ihs Arabs thor
supply their oil. Everbody
works the angles in this supply
and demand game, was ed’s
