that the tongues 8 and 9 not only provide
said air passages, but also provide an effi-
cient reinforcement between the passages
13 and 14 and connect the lower portion of
5 the sleeve 3 with the upper portion of the
inwardly turned elements of the trunk-re-
ceiving portion 2.
The main portion of the yoke 7 extends
over the tops of the shoulder portions and
10 not only reinforces this portion but provides
an additional thickness for cushioning. the
part of the shoulder on which a carpenter
or other workman carries lumber or other
material.
15 It is not intended to limit this invention
to the exact details of construction as de-
scribed in the foregoing, but changes may
be made within the scope of the inventive
ideas as implied and claimed.
20 What we claim as our invention is:
1. In a body garment comprising a trunk-
receiving portion and sleeves and having
openings in its armpit portions, reinforcing
and passage-forming portions comprising
25 two pairs of tongues, the tongues of each
pair having their lower ends meeting under
the adjacent sleeve and stitched to one an-
other and to the trunk-receiving portion be-
low and adjacent each opening, the upper
30 edges of each pair of tongues being stitched
throughout their combined length to the ad-
jacent sleeves, the lower edges of each pair
of tongues being stitched to the trunk-re-
ceiving portion in front and in rear of the
35 adjacent shoulder portion, each of said
tongues having a free lower edge portion
extending from the stitching at its lower
end to the stitching at its portion which
overlies the adjacent shoulder portion, there-
'o by providing a combined. reinforcement and
a pair of rain-excluding air passages for
each armpit portion.
2. In a body garment comprising a trunk-
receiving portion and sleeves and having
45 openings in its armpit portions, a yoke of
sheet material extending over and around
each shoulder portion and including two
pairs of tongues, the tongues of each pairhaving their lower ends meeting under the
adjacent sleeve and stitched to one another 50
and to the trunk-receiving portion below
and adjacent each opening, the upper edges
of each pair of tongues being stitched
throughout their combined length to the ad-
jacent sleeves, the lower edges of each pair 55
of tongues being stitched to the trunk-re-
ceiving portions in front and in rear of the
adjacent shoulder portion, each of said
tongues having a free lower edge portion ex-
tending from the stitching at its lower end 60
to the stitching at its portion which overlies
the adjacent shoulder portion, thereby pro-
viding a combined reinforcement and a pair
of rain-excluding air passages for each arm-
pit portion. 65
3. In a body garment comprising a trunk-
receiving portion and sleeves and having
openings in its armpit portions, said trunk-
receiving portion having inwardly turned
edges at each armpit portion, reinforcing 70
and passage-forming portions comprising
two pairs of tongues, the tongues of each
pair having their lower ends meeting under
the adjacent sleeve and extending between
said inwardly turned edges and stitched to 75
one another and to the inwardly turned
edges of the trunk-receiving portion below
and adjacent each opening, the upper edges
of each pair of tongues being stitched
throughout their combined length to the ad- 80
jacent sleeve, the lower edges of each pair of
tongues being stitched to the trunk-receiv-
ing portion in front and in rear of the adja-
cent shoulder portion, each of said tongues
having a free lower edge portion extending 85
from the stitching at its lower end to the
stitching at its portion which overlies the
adjacent shoulder portion, thereby provid-
ing a combined reinforcement and a pair
of rain-excluding air passages for each arm- 90
pit portion.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto
set our hands.
