tage in other instances where it is desirable
to feed a tape through a holder and inwhich
the holder is provided with a registering
opening for exposing successive character-
5 ized portions of the tape where they may be
observed and checked.
While the tape has been shown and de-
scribed as leaving the machine through the
opening 7, it is, of course, understood that
1o the same may instead feed over the roller 6
on the outside of the machine. This would
appear desirable with a short tape. Then,
again, instead of introducing the tape in
the machine through the opening 2, it may
15 be fed in the reverse direction and intro-
duced through either the opening 7 or un-
der friction-inducing roller 10 from the out-
side of the machine.
Having thus described my invention, I
20 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters
Patent:
1. In a machine of the class described, a
tape holder having a registering opening
therein, means for feeding a tape through
25 the holder with successive portions thereof
registering with said opening, and means co-
operating with the tape-feeding means for
indicating the portions of the tape thus reg-
istered.
30 2. In a machine of the class described, a
tape holder having a registering opening
therein, means for feeding a tape from one
end of the machine to the other with succes-
sive portions thereof registering with said
35 opening, and means cooperating with the
tape-feeding means for indicating the por-
tions of the tape thus registered.
3. In a machine of the class described, atape holder through which a tape is fed in
a step-by-step manner, means for exposing 40
successive characterized portions of the
tape, and means for iiidicating on the tape
the exposure of said portions.
4. In a machine of the character described
and as set forth in claim 2, and in which the 45
tape-feeding means comprises a rotatable
platen with means for rotating the same in
a step-by-step manner and in which the
means for indicating the registered portions
of the tape is actuated by the platen-rotat- 50
ing means, and comprising a pivoted tape-
contacting lever adapted to normally lie in
the path of the platen-rotating means.
5. A tape-feeding and checking register,
comprising a tape holder having a register- 55
ing opening therein, 'a rotatable platen at
one end of the holder, means for rotating
said roller in a step-by-step manner for ex-
posing successive portions of the tape
through said opening, comprising a ratchet 60
on the roller, a pawl for engaging the teeth
of said ratchet, a pivoted lever for actuating
said pawl, and a tape-contacting and indi-
cating device actuated by said pivoted lever
and contacting with the tape exposed 65
through said opening.
6. In a machine of the class described, a
tape holder having means for feeding the
tape in a step by step manner, and means
for exposing successive characterized por- 70
tions of the tape, and means operated by
said tape feeding means for indicating upon
the tape the exposure of said characterized
portions of the tape.
