UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LAURA ANDERSON, OF LUFKIN, TEXAS.
LAMP CHIMNEY AND BURNER.Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 24, 1918.
Application filed May 20, 1918. Serial No. 235,586.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAURA ANDERSON, a
citizen of the United States, residing at
Lufkin, in the county of Angelina and State
5 of Texas, have invented new and useful Im-
provements in Lamp Chimneys and Burn-
ers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements
in lamp chimneys and burners and espe-
10 cially with reference to the provision of co-
acting means on a lamp burner and lamp
chimney to securely fasten the chimney
when the same is placed on the burner and
prevent the chimney from becoming casu-
15 ally detached from the burner or from fall-
ing therefrom.
With the above and other objects in view,
the invention consists in the construction,
combination and arrangement of devices
20 hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings
Figure 1 is an elevation of a lamp chim-
ney and burner provided with chimney
holding means constructed and arranged in
25 accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail vertical sectional view
of the same.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the
same.
30 For the purposes of this specification, the
lamp burner 1, which is of the usual con-
struction, provided with a gallery 2, a dome
3, a wick tube 4, a wick raiser 5, and chinm-
ney holding arms 6, has in accordance with
35 my invention slots 7 in said chimney hold-
ing arms, said slots being open at their up-
per ends.
The chimney g which may be of any suit-
able size and shape is provided near its
40 lower end with a circumferential groove
9 in which is fitted a band 10. Preferably,
the band is made of brass or other suitable
non-corrodible material and preferably also
the band is open at one side as at 11 and is
45 provided with means as at 12 to secure its
ends together and this construction enable;
the band to be removed from and to place
the clamp on and around the chimney and
in the groove thereof, as will be understood.
50 Hence, when a chimney becomes broken
the band can be removed therefrom and
used on another chimney. The band is pro-
vided with radially projecting studs 13
which are here shown as provided at their
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents
Washingtouter ends with enlarged heads 14 and 55
which are so spaced on the band as to be
adapted to enter the slots of the burner
clamping or holding arms so that when the
chimney is in place on the burner the studs
will be in the lower ends of the slots and 6o
hence the burner arms, the band and the
studs will coact to firmly secure the chimney
on the burner, so that the chimney cannot
become casually detached from the burner
and cannot fall therefrom. However, by 05
lifting the chimney, the same can be readily
detached from the burner when desired.
While I have herein shown and described
a preferred embodiment of my invention,
I would have it understood that changes 70
may be made in the form, proportion and
construction of the several parts, without
departing from the spirit of my invention,
and within the scope of the appended
claims. 75
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new is:--
1. In combination with a lamp burner
having chimney holding arms each provided
with an open slot, a chimney, and a band 80
extending around the chimney and provided
with radially projecting studs to enter the
slots of said holding arms and thereby se-
curely fasten the chimney on the burner.
2. In combination with a lamp burner 85
having chimney holding arms each provided
with an open slot, a chimney, and a band
extending around the chimney and provided
with radially projecting studs to enter the
slots of said holding arms and thereby se- 90
curely fasten the chimney on the burner.
said chimney having a circumferential
groove in which said band is secured.
3. In combination with a lamp burner
having chimney holding arms each provided 95
with an open slot, a chimney, and a band
extending around the chimney and provided
with radially projecting studs to enter the
slots of said holding arms and thereby se-
curely fasten the chimney on the burner, 100
said chimney having a circumferential
groove in which said band is secured, and
the said band being open at one side and
being provided with means to secure its
ends together. 105
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MRs. LAURA ANDERSON.
