made without departing from my invention.
What I claim, is,-
A pump having a casing in sections, an
5 enlarged packing chamber having a swaged
lower end for connection with said casing,
packing in said chamber, a ring supporting
said packing and resting on the swaged por-
tion of said chamber, a ring compressor for
tO said packing having a cup-shape on the up-
per side about the opening therethrough, a
reducer connecting the upper end of said
packing chamber to said casing, a workingbarrel in said casing operating through said
packing and having a tapered valved sec- 15
tion detachably connected thereto, said
valved section having an integral valve seat
therein and having perforations below said
seat for relieving pressure on said working
-barrel when said barrel passes above said 20
packing, and a valve adapted to engage said'
seat.
