2. Pipe tongs comprising a movable jaw,
a stationary jaw and a lever provided with
a finger, said lever pivoted to the larger jaw,,
10 cheek pieces to which the lever is pivoted,
said movable jaw also pivoted to the cheek
pieces about midway of its ends, a bridge
member spanning the cheek pieces and
springs below one end of the lever, all ar-ranged so that when the lever is moved to- 15
ward or away from the cheek pieces the
finger Will bear against the bridge niember
and the springs against the lever and operate
to move the inner end of the movable jaw
outwardly or inwardly to tighten or release 20
the jaws on or from a pipe, said finger,
bridge member and springs adapted to lock
the lever in operative position when the lever
is released.
