Extending between the end members
11-12 below the line of the upper drum 53
are a plurality of guard slats 56, while a
similar series of slats 57 extend between the
5 end members 11-12 and below the lower line
of the lower drum 53. The slats are arranged
in curved position and serve as guards
to the fabric member 55 and its attached
maps or charts when fully wound upon the.
10 drums to prevent them from sagging down
in event of the tension devices not being
of sufficient strength. The slats 56 are sup-
ported at their ends by curved cleat devices
58, while the slats 57 are supported by simi-
15 lar curved cleats 59. The detachable rear
member 18 is located opposite the upper
drum and its operating mechanism, while
the lower detachable member 19 is located
opposite the lower drum and its operating
20 mechanism, so that the drums and their
operating mechanism are readily accessible
to enable the maps or charts to .be renewed
or changed.
The maps or charts may thus be renewed
25 or changed by simply removing one or both
the members 18-19.
The confronting edges of the stationary
back members 15-16 and 17 and the re-
movable back members 18 and 19 are rab-
30 beted, as shown in Fig. 2, to assist in hold-
ing them in position.
Having thus described the invention,
what is claimed as new is-
1. An apparatus of the class describedcomprising a casing including end members 35
and open at the front;. guide rollers mount-
ed for rotation in said end members near
the upper and lower portions of the casing,
coacting winding drums mounted for rota-
tion between said end members and having 40
guard disks at the ends, a flexible element
connected to said drums and leading- over
said guide rollers and adapted to contact
with said disks, upper and lower transverse
supports extending between said end mem- 45
bers and between said rollers, and guard
members connected respectively to said
transverse supports and directed between
said flexible element and said movable
guard disks and preventing contact of the 50
flexible element therewith.
2. An apparatus of the class described,
comprising a casing including end members
and open at the front, guide rollers mount-
ed for rotation in said end members near 55
the upper and lower portions of the casing,
coacting winding drums mounted for rota-
tion between said end members, guard disks
at the ends of the rollers and drums and ro-
tative independently of the same, yieldable 60
tension devices bearing against said disks,
and a flexible element connected to said
drums and leading over said guide rollers
and adapted to contact with said yieldable
disks and prevented thereby from displace- 65
ment.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
