UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK SCHUTZ, OF CAMERON, TEXAS.
BALE-TIE BUCKLE.Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1918.
Applicettion filed November 28, 1916. Serial No. 133,861.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK SCHUTZ, a
citizen of the United States, residing at
Cameron, in the county of Milam and State
5 of Texas, have invented certain new and use-
ful Improvements in Bale-Tie Buckles; and
I do hereby declare the following to be a
full, clear, and exact description of the in-
vention, such as will enable others skilled in
10 the art to which it appertains to make and
use the same.
This invention has for its object to pro-
vide an improved bale tie buckle of that type
in which the bale tie or band is insertible
15 edgewise into the opening in the buckle, the
latter being provided with an internal shoul-
der adapted to cooperate with the tie or band
to prevent the latter from accidentally slip-
ping through the entrance throat in the buc-
20 kle when the tie is slackened.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention consists in the novel construction,
combination and arrangement of parts as
will be hereinafter specifically described,
25 claimed and illustrated in the accompanying
drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a plan view of the tie
buckle,
Fig. 2 represents a sectional view there-
30 through, and
Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of
the buckle.
Referring to the drawing in detail, where-
in similar reference numerals designate cor-
35 responding parts throughout the several
views, the numeral 5 indicates a relatively
thin body plate having a centrally located
opening 6 therein, which is elongated lon-
gitudinally of the plate and is provided with
40 one end rounded, as indicated at 7. The
opening 6 is enlarged laterally at one end
to define a shoulder 8, which communicates
with a throat 9 extending .outwardly
through one longitudinal edge of the body
45 plate and communicating with the opening6 at a point centrally between the end edge
10 thereof and the shoulder 8.
In use, one end of the band or tie I1 is
inserted in the opening 6 and is engaged
with the longitudinal edge thereof opposite 50
the throat 9, and the opposite terminal of
the tie is subsequently inserted edgewise
through the throat 9 and into the opening 6,
a portion of the opening lying outwardly of
the shoulder 8 permitting the tie to be con- 55
veniently inserted in position in the body
plate. Subsequent to the insertion of the
last-named terminal of the tie the latter is
drawn tightly about the bale, or other ob-
ject, and is thus moved against the portions 60
of the edge of the opening lying on opposite
sides of the entrance throat 9, the end edge
10 and shoulder 8 snugly fitting the tie, as is
clearly evident by reference to Fig. 1, and
thus insuring against its accidental removal 65
through the throat 9. The shoulder 8 is dis-
posed at right angles to the tie-engaging
edge portions 12 of the body plate, so as to
permit the tie, during application, to con-
veniently engage with the edge portions 12 70
and against the shoulder 8.
What I claim is:
A bale buckle comprising a flat body plate
having an elongated opening therein one
end of which is rounded and the other end 75
straight, said opening enlarged laterally at
one end to provide a shoulder which is par-
allel to the straight end of the opening, said
body plate having an entrance throat formed
therein and communicating with the en- 80
largement of said opening equi-distant of
the ends of the enlargement, the sides of said
throat being parallel with said shoulder and
at right angles to the sides of said opening.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 85
in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK SCHUTZ.
