position the contact 30 is projected out-
wardly so that the same will be engaged by
the door and forced inwardly by contact
therewith so as to adjust the levers 32 and
5 33 toward alined positions. This adjust-
ment of said levers will swing the detect 16
about its pivot 17 to project the sleeve 20
through the opening 21 and to its operative
position against the tension of the spring 27
10 which will absorb the shock occasioned by
the contact of the door with the member 30.
It will thus be apparent that a complete
opening of the door will be cushioned and
that the same will be automatically retained
15 in opened position by the detent 16 until re-
leased by the operation of the lever 24.
What is claimed is:-
. 1. A door catch comprising a casing, a de-
tent pivoted in said casing and normally re-
20 cessed therein and having a portion adapted
to be projected from said casing and en-
gage a door when the detent is adjusted to
operative position, means for releasably re-
taining said detent in its operative position,
25 means operable from the exterior of the cas-
ing to move the last named means to releas-
ing position, means operated by contact with
a door and connected to said detent for ad-
justing the same to operative position, and
30 means absorbing the shock of the contact be-
tween the door and the last named means andalso returning said detent to normal posi-
tion when released.
2. A door catch comprising a casing hav-
ing angularly disposed edges forming a re- 35
cess to receive a portion of a door, a detent
pivotally mounted in said casing and having
a portion adapted to be projected from the
casing and into engagement with the door
when said detent is adjusted to operative po- 40
sition, a contact normally disposed in the
recess formed by said angular edges and
adapted to be engaged by the door as the
same is swung into said recess, a lever piv-
oted to said contact and to said casing, a 45
second lever extending between said con-
tact and one end of said detent whereby the
lever is rocked about its pivot when said
contact is forced inwardly by the door, a
pin for engaging said detent to releasably 50
retain the same in its operative position, and
a coil spring connected to said detent for
absorbing the shock occasioned by the en-
gagement of the door with said contact and
also for returning said detent to its normal 55
position when released.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature
in the presence of two witnesses.
