UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY F. MAYSE, OF GIRVIN, TEXAS.
SHADE AND CURTAIN HOLDER.Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 18,1919.
Application filed October 21, 1918. Serial No. 258,948.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY F. MAYsE, a
citizen of the United States, residing at
Girvin, in the county of Pecos and State of
5 Texas, have invented new and useful Im-
provements in Shade and Curtain Holders,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful
improvements in shade and curtain holders
10 and the principal object of the invention is
to provide adjustable means carried by the
upper sash for supporting the curtain pole
and shade roll.
Another object of the invention is to pro-
15 vide a device of this character which is
simple and durable in construction, reliable
and efficient in operation and one which can
be manufactured and placed upon the mar-
ket at a minimum cost.
20 The invention also consists in certain
other features of construction and in the
combination and arrangement of the sev-
eral parts, to be hereinafter fully described,
illustrated in the accompanying drawings
25 and specifically pointed out in the append-
ed claim.
In describing my invention in detail, ref-
erence will be had to the accompanying
drawings wherein like characters denote
so like or corresponding parts throughout the
several views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a front view of a window to
which my invention is attached.
Fig. 2 is a front view of one of the sup-
35 porting members.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view of the sash fastening de-
vice.
In these views 1 indicates the window
40 frame and 2 the upper sash while 3 repre-
sents the lower sash. My supporting mem-
bers are secured to the upper sash so that
when said sash is lowered for ventilating
purposes the curtain and shade will also
45 be lowered so as to not obstruct the open-
ing.
Each of my supporting members consist
of a tubular member 4 having flanges 5 at
its bottom to which the screws or the like
50 are fastened to secure the device to the sash.
This member 4 is provided with a series of
holes 6 spaced apart throughout its length.7 indicates the T shaped member having its
stem 8 fitting in said tubular member, and
said stem is provided with holes 9 adapted 55
to register with holes 6. By passing a nail
10 through these holes the said stem may be
held in adjusted position in said tubular
member. As will be seen the two members
of the T shaped member are of tubular 60
form, and the upper arm of said member
is provided with a central opening 11.
This arm slidingly receives a tubular part
12 of the bracket 13, which carries the cur-
tain pole and shade. This tubular part is 65
provided with holes 14 and a pin 15 is
adapted to pass through any one of these
holes and the hole 12 so that the bracket is
adjustably held in position in the T shaped
member. The rest of the bracket is com- 70
posed of the flat piece 16 bent at right an-
gles and having the groove 17 therein for
receiving the curtain pole and the slot or
opening 18 for receiving the pintles of the
shade roll. 75
It will thus be seen that the support may
be adjusted in length so as to accommodate
window frames of different depths and
that it can also be adjusted to suit shade
rolls of different lengths. 80
I provide means for holding the sashes
locked in different positions and such means
consists of a bar 19 having its upper end
bent at right angles and secured to the up-
per sash. Said bar is provided with 85
notches 20 spaced apart and adapted to en-
gage a lug 21 on the lower sash. In this
way by placing the lug in any desired
notch the upper sash may be locked in any
desired position relative to the lower sash. 90
It is thought from the foregoing descrip-
tion that the advantages and novel features
of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may
make changes in the construction and in 95
the combination and arrangement of the
several parts, provided that such changes
fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:-
A device of the class described compris- 100
ing a pair of supporting members, each
member consisting of a tubular base hav-
ing flanges on its lower end adapted to be
secured to the upper sash, a T shaped mem-1,297,886.
