the anti-frictional bearings 17a in place, so
that the rollers may freely rotate. It will
be noted that the rollers or wheels have anti-
frictional bearings, thereby permitting the
5 rollers or wheels to freely rotate in the
channel guides.
It will be noted that there are four wheels
carried by the journals of the lower part
of the door, while there are three wheels car-
10 ried by the journals of the upper part of
the door, thereby acting to prevent the door
from bulging outwardly, as is usually the
case in connection with hangers now in use,
which give considerable trouble when open-
15 ing and closing car doors.
The lower floor of the channel guides are
provided with apertures or openings 19, for
carrying off the debris, rain water and melt-
ed snow or sleet, thereby preventing freez-
2o ing of the same in the guide, which would
undoubtedly prevent free movements of the
door as well as the rollers or wheels in the
guides. These openings or apertures are lO-
cated toward the ends of the guides, so that
25 the water and the like may travel to either
end of the guides. Abutment strips 20 are
arranged adjacent the opposite ends of the
guides, to limit the door in its opening or
closing movement.
so Adjacent one of the vertical edges or
jambs of the door opening 2 a vertical
strip 2a is fixed, to close the space between
the door and the side of the car, at a point
adjacent the door opening. This strip 2a
35 is fastened between the upper and lowel
channel guides as shown. The slots of the
channel guides are relatively narrow, in fact
only wide enough to permit freedom of
movement of the nuts 10 and the bevel col-
40 lars 10a longitudinally. The collars 10- are
threaded on the journals, so as to permit of
the assembling of the rollers or wheels on
the journals, there being ball bearings 17a
between the bevels of the collars 10a and
45 the heads 18, so as to permit free movements
of the rollers or wheels.
The invention having been set forth,
what is claimed as being useful is:-
1. In a car door hanger, the combination
50 with upper and lower channel guides, of a
door arranged adjacent the door opening of
the car, journals adjacent the upper and
lower parts of the door and extending
transversely at right angles thereto, said
55 journals having inwardly and outwardly
extending parts, rollers or wheels mounted
on the inwardly extending parts, means for
holding the wheels or rollers thereon, straps
connected to the outer face of the door andhaving their ends engaged with the end 60
portions of the outwardly extending parts
of the journals, sleeves mounted on the out-
wardly extending parts under the extremi-
ties of the straps, and means such as nuts en-
gaging the extremities of the outwardly ex- 65
tending parts to hold the straps and sleeves
in position, thereby reinforcing the jour-
nals rigidly at right angles to the door.
2. In a car door hanger, the combination
with upper and lower channel guides, of a 70
door arranged adjacent the door opening of
the car, journals adjacent the upper and
lower parts of the door and extending trans-
versely at right angles thereto, said jour-
nals having inwardly and outwardly extend- 75
ing parts, rollers or wheels mounted on the
inwardly extending parts, means for hold-
ing the wheels or rollers thereon, straps con-
nected to the outer face of the door and hav-
ing their ends engaged with the end por- so
tions of the outwardly extending parts of the
journals, sleeves mounted on the outwardly
extending parts and the extremities of the
straps, and means such as nuts engaging the
extremities of the outwardly extending parts 85
to hold the straps and sleeves in position,
thereby reinforcing the journals rigidly at
right angles to the door, and means on the
journals immediately adjacent the outer
face of the door to prevent axial movement to
of the journals relatively to the door, be-
fore the reinforcing and outer bracing
means are applied.
3. In a car door hanger, the combination
with upper and lower channel guides, of a 95
door arranged adjacent the door opening of
the car, journals adjacent the upper and
lower parts of the door and extending trans-
versely at right angles thereto and provided
with inwardly and outwardly extending ioo
parts, rollers mounted on the inwardly ex-
tending parts and engaging the channel
guides, said outwardly extending parts ter-
minating a substantial distance from the
outer face of the door, straps connected to 105
the outer face of the door and extending
at substantial angles to the door upwardly
and downwardly and engaged with the end
portions of the outwardly extending parts
of the journals, means on the outwardly e- 110
tending parts of the journals spacing the
straps substantial distances from the door,
and means for holding the straps in engage-
ment with the journals and said spacing
means. 115
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my
signature.
