I Mother's March in De Leon
I Sunday afternoon, January 25,
I with the goal for the county
set at $3,000.00. The 1970 MOD
slogan is ’Prevent Birth De-
fects.’
More than a quarter of a
million infants are born each
year in the United States with
significant birth defects. Co-
manche County has had an un-
usually high average of these
in the past few years. Two
County deaths due to birth de-
fects have already been re-
ported this month.
25% of all funds collected
in the county are sent direct-
ly to the National Foundation’s
Research Fund, to be used for
research in connection with
birth defects. Most of this goes
directly to the Salk institute.
The rest of this research fund
is sent to various localized
Research Grants. Thanks to this
Intensive research work, many
birth defects can now be pre-
vented through the new Hh vac-
cine. Many more can be pre-
ventea tn the near future with
the vaccine against Rubella,
* which was licensed last No-
vember.
