■SO BIG,* BASED ON EDNA
' FERBER PRIZE NOVEL, DUE
AT LEON THURSDAY, FRIDAY
“So Big,” based on the Pulit-
zer Prize-winning novel by Ed-
na Ferber, comes to the screen
of the Leon Theatre Thursday
and Friday.
It is the dramatic story of a
woman, played by Jane Wyman,
who leaves her wealthy girlhood
home to start teaching in a re-
mote community. How she falls
in love with and marries a hus-
ky young farmer, forms the
background for the important
events in the story of Selina De-
Jong.
Filmed by Warner Bros, with
a starring cast that includes A-
cademy Award winner Jane Wy-
man, Sterling Hayden and Nancy
Olson, “So Big” as a book has
become a perennial best-seller.
Now, as a motion picture the be-
loved story of Selina DeJong is
destined to even greater popu-
larity.
Miss Wyman, whose Academy
“Oscar” was won by her poig-
; nant portrayal in “Johnny Be-
linda," will b*e seen in the role
of Selina Dejong, who has been
called one of Edna Ferber’s
greatest literary characters.
In the role of Pervus De Jong,
Sterling Hayden enters a strong
bid to harvest critical acclaim,
according to Hollywood reports.

While returning toWashington
from three weeks of intensive
visiting over our Congressional
District, I have had time to fully
appreciate the pleasure of hav-
ing seen so many friends and
constituents. For all the invita-
tions to speak at various func-
tions and occasions, I am deeply
grateful.
It has been necessary for us
to return to Washington in order
to get some “irons out of the
fire” and put others in before
the opening of the next Session
of the Congress.
