Mrs. Schuman Ending Longtime
Career Of Service To Others
By I). L. B.
Mrs. A. C. Schuman of 503
Houston is retiring as a vol-
unteer welfare worker and
wants to make it known to
the public in general.
Being sincere in her desire
to help people in need, she
didn’t want to say anything
about any of the good she has
done for an endless number
of people. But it Lsn’t every-
one who would spend the
hours she has doing this.
Thirty years ago, a house
of someone in this area burn-
ed, leaving the family practi-
cally nothing. Out of compas-
sion, she called different ones
for things and was able to
get the family started again.
Thus a new facet of her life
took deep roots. She gives all
credit to people who gave in
answer to her pleas, by phone
and in person, and special
credit to her family who was
very understanding of the
time it took to accomplish
BAND NEWS
The De Leon High School
Band went to Cisco Satur-
day for the UIL Band Con-
cert and Sightreading Con-
test. Bands were given rat-
ings of I through V — I
meaning superior and V
meaning poor.
The band received a III in
concert and a II in sightreed-
ing. For the year, the band
received a n in marching,
m in concert, and a H in
sightreading.
Mrs. Schuman has been
the recipient of certificates,
telegrams and letters, citing
her for unselfish service to
her fellow man. Mrs. Charles
Morgan nominated her for an
orchid, which was given daily
from a nationwide radio
show, and which was award-
ed to Mrs. Schuman. These
and many other recognitions
came her way, but she states
the greatest pleasure was af-
forded by her giving of her-
self. She said she had thrown
away all memorablia, as her
family knew of them, and
that was enough for her.
