ST. JO BAPTISTS PLAN
ENLISTMENT CAMPAIGN
The Saint Jo Baptist
Church is planning Training
Union Enlistment Campaign
Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
with an toe cream and cake
social to be held in the new
kitchen and fellowship hall
which has just been complet-
ed. Plans are to reach one
new member for each class.
Saint Jo Church Is a very
active church three miles
northeast of De Leon. Bob
Watson is pastor of the
church.

Desire . . . hard work . . .
cooperation, and almost any-
thing can be accomplished.
That is just what happened
last Saturday, April 15, when
the 64th Texas Legislative
District honored House Spea-
ker Ben Barnes on his 29th
birthday at Copperas Creek
Park on Lake Proc'or with
a barbecue dinner and all the
trimmings.
People of District 64 are
proud of the outstanding job
Ben is doing as Speaker of the
|House and for the District,
and wished to show their ap-
preciation by proclaiming
April 15 as Ben Barnes Day
to celebrate his birthday.
And some birthday party
it was, with an estimated
crowd of some 10,000, includ-
ing Gov. and Mrs. John Con-
nally, Former Governor Coke
Stephenson, Congre s s m a n
Graham Purcell, Attorney
General Crawford Martin and
state officials galore, as well
as a vast majority of the
House of Representatives.

Hal Woodward of Coleman
was Master of Ceremonies.
Also on hand for the rele-
bration were proud parents,
IMr. and Mrs. B. F. Barnes,
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Morgan,
brother Rick of Dallas, grand-
mothers, uncles, aunts, cous-
ins, schoolmates, friends—in
fact, just about everybody, It
seemed.
The De Leon Band, led by
Drum Major Cecelia Terrill,
never sounded better than
when they broke into the De
Leon Fight Song just before
Ben, Martha, Greg and Amy
stepped from one of the many
chartered buses from Austin.
It would be impossible to
name all Who had a part in
making the celebration some-
thing that will be long re-
membered by the citizens of
Comanche County and the
64 th District

Miss Kathryn Morgan, ac-
companied by Bill Hugg, both
of Fort Worth,, visited last
week with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Lester Morgan.
DEBBIE BARKER, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bar-
ker, la in Dallas thia week to
sing in the 100-voloe choir
at the State Future Home-
Makers of America Couvea-
ttoa.
Lester Morgan, who is as-
sociated with Southwestern
Peanut Growers Association,
has been working in Pecos for
the past several weeks, but
is now working out of Rang-
er.
Cancer Crusade
Plans Underway
Plans are being made this
week for the Annual Cancer
Crusade to be held in De Leon
to be held in De Leon the
last week in April. Payne
Hattox is serving as local
Chairman and has been busy
this week contacting the la-
dies who served as captains
and workers last year.
Mrs. Milton Caraway will
be captains of the northeast
section of town and the Co-
rnyn area. Mrs. Clifford Gla-
zier and Mrs. Freddie Hammit
will have the southeast sec-
tion. Mrs. Charles Bayer and
Mrs. Hadley Scott will cap-
tain the southwest section of
town. Mrs. Hiram Locke and
her helpers will begin at the
Sipe Springs Road and work
south. Captains of the north-
west section have not been
contacted at this time.
A planning meetting for
all workers who have promis-
ed to help and those who wish
to volunteer their services
will be held Friday, April 21
at 10 a.m. at the First Christ-
ian Church. Mr. Riley Sloan,
field Representative for Dis-
trict IV will be there to as-
sist Bro. Hattox and to show
a film starring Gregory
Peck entitled "Investment In
Life."
Evangelism Conf
To Be Held Here
Rev. Ralph Heickman, pas-
tor of First Baptist Church,
announces the Comanche
County Evangelism Confer-
ence will be held at First
Baptist Church on Friday,
April 21, beginning at 4:00
pm.
Several outstanding speak-
ers will be on the program,
including S.S. Stover, return-
ed missionary; John Wiles,
pastor of Comanche First
Baptist Church; Bob Perrin,
pastor of Dublin First Bap-
tist Church; and Fred Swank,
pastor of Sagamore Baptist
Church in Fort Worth.
The Comanche Choir, un-
der the direction of Travis
Shelton, will give the special
music.
There will be a covered
dish supper from 6:00 pm. to
7:00 pm.
