Schools To Open
On August 29th
De Leon Public School will
open classes August 29 at
8:10 ajn. with an estimated
enrollment of approximately
630 pupils. The high school
has been completely repaint-
ed and new tops installed on
an desks.
R. D. Wright, Counselor
for the De Leon schools, will
be at Elementary on Monday
mornings and Friday after-
noons, and at High School all
day Tuesdays and Friday
mornings for the school year.
AU high school students
are urged to meet with Mr.
Wright to discuss college re-

WASHINGTON — Con-
gressman Omar Burleson an-
nounced recently the approval
of of a 1564,000 Rural Elec-
trification Adkninist ration
Loan to the Comanche County
Electrio Cooperative Associa-
tion, serving Callahan, Co-
manche, Eastland, Shakelford,
Stephens, Brown and Mills
Counties.
This loan is for the purpose
of financing construction of
127 miles of distribution Une
to serve seven hundred new
consumers, as well as exten-
sive system improvements in-
cluding 16 miles of new tie-
line and conversion of 63
miles of existing Une. Also in-
cluded in the loan are funds
for the construction of a
branch headquarters facility
to be olcated at Eastland.

BROWNWOOD — Five De
Leon youngsters have quali-
fied for the Central Texas
Finals FFA-4-H Rodeo to be
held here Thursday, Friday
and Saturday in the 1200,000
Brown County Fair Associa-
tion arena on the Brady High-
way.
Qualifying from De Leon
are Carol Joe Shoemaker and
Wadena Bingham in the
grade school barrel race;
Jonothan Bauman and Don
Kimmell in bareback bronc
riding, and Joe Bob Warren
in tjje breakaway roping.
Performances will start
each night at 8 pm.
The rodeo, originated by
Hollis Rodgers and Alvis
Sewalt of Brownwood, is be-
ing sponsored by the Brown
County Fair Association.
The rodeo was planned ear-
ly in the summer so young-
sters could have some goal
to compete for in the smaller
rodeos, such as the one held
annually in De Leon.
From these rodeos the fair
assentation takes the top four
qualifiers and invites them to
participate in the finals ro-
deo as a climax to the rodeo
season.
Borne 150 youngsters have
been invited to participate.
Admission to the rodeo will
be 91 for adults, 50 cents for
children over 12 and all
youngsters under’ 12 will be

The De Leon Young Home-
makers met on Monday night
in the Home Economics
Building for the purpose of
Meeting officers for the new
fiscal year, September 1,
1966 through August 31, 1967.
Mrs. Buddy Davis, out-going
president, called the meeting
to order and presided over the
election. Offices were filled
as follows;
President, Mrs. Derrell
Kimmell; Vice President, Mrs.
Don Ray Keith; Secretary,
Mrs. Floyd Anderson; Treas-
urer, Mrs. Buddy Davis; Re-
porter, Mrs. Jack Johnson;
Historian, Mrs. Ray Joiner;
Parliamentarian, Mrs. Yuvon-
ne Perry.
The new president, Mrs.
Derrell Kimmell, appointed
four committees to work with
her. Others will be appointed
at a later date. Those ap-
pointed were:
Yearbook — Mrs. Jack
Johnson, Mrs. Gary J. Wilson;
Budget — Mrs. Buddy Davis,
Mrs. Floyd Anderson; Publi-
city — Mrs. Ray Joiner, Mra.
Jack Johnson; Auditing, Miss
Marie Maughan.
Mra. Gary J. Wilson was
elected to be a candidate for
vice president to the Area IV
Association.
Mrs. Jack Johnson, Area
IV President, YHT, pointed
cut that th® Area IV Conven-
tion will be held this year at
the Windsor Hotel in Abilene
on September 24. New officers
for the area association will
be elected at this all-day
meeting. A banquet will be
held in the evening with the
Area IV Young fanners and
awards for the past year win

The program of work for
the new fiscal year was also
planned. The De Leon Chap-
ter of Young Homemakers
meet on every third Monday
night at 7:30. The next meet-
ing will be on September 19
with a program on removing
stains. Anyone interested in
this organiaaUcn is invited to
attend.
Included in September’s
tlvtties will be Young Home-
maker week In Texas, Sep-
tember 18-24. Definite plans
each day's activities will
be released later. Um climax
of the week will ba the area
convention in Abilene.

manche spent three days last
week in San Antonio attend-
ing the annual Texas Electrio
Cooperative State Convention.
The three days were pack-
ed with activitieB for the
group, espedall for Judy Wil-
kerson, who participated in
the beauty pageant as “Miss
West Texas Electric.’*
A reception waa held on
Wednesday afternoon honor-
ing the conteotante and the
1066 Miss Rural Electriflca-
cation. Miss Jan Brown of
Harper, at La Sirens Art Gal-
lery. This beautiful setting on
the banks of the San Antonio
River made a lovely back-
ground as the girls stood in a
receiving Une greeting the
guests.
AU other activities for the
girts were in preparation for
the big event, the “Fiesta de
lot Cooperatives’* and the con-
test for the title of “Miss Ru-
ral Etoctrifloatton, 1967.’*
This waa held at La Viilita
Auditorium in a settli^ of
the Spanish Fiesta featuring
a round stage in the center of
the auditerium. The beautiful
setting added much to this
•vent for each one of the
girls.
The winner of the coveted
title was Miss Laura Gass of
Comfort
