OQQqq,
THE VALUE OF THE CHURCH
The church is a divine institution. Jesus said, “1 will
build my church.” (Matt. 16:18). He is the only one
who has a right to speak of it as * 'my Church. ’ ’
The church is valuable because of what it cost. It cost
God his 5on, and it cost die Son *us biood. 1 he church
was made possible by the blood of Christ. We are bought
with his blood of Christ. We are bought with his blood.
paid1 told the Ephesian elders that the church was pur-
chased with the blood of Christ (Acts 20:28). And that
we are bought with a price (I Cor. 6:20). We do value
things somewhat in proportion to what they cost, thus
we look upon the church. We have not been redeemed
with corruptable things, such as silver and gold, but by
the precious blood of Christ (I Pet. 1:18-19). Our
souls are valuable in the sight of God.
The church is valuable because salvation is in it. There
is no salvation for any of us outside of Christ. There is
no salvation in any other name other than the name of
Christ (Acts 2:46-47). (Notice, this is without the vote
or consent of man). We are saved when we obey Him.
.• (Heb. 5:8; Matt. 7:21).
Often we hear people say the chuch never saved any
one. We may grant that to be true, but all the saved
are in the church (Acts 2:47). Christ is the Saviour,
but he is the saviour of the body, and the body is the
church. ‘‘For the husband is the head of the wife, even
as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the sav-
iour of the body.” “And he is the head of the body, the
church” (Eph. 5:23; Col. 1;18).
