The city court room was jammed with 6 jurors, judge, attorney,
defendent, and 1 witness, with no standing room left for those
wanting to hear last Saturday’s jury trial of S. J. Ratliff, charged
with speeding. These jurors returned a guilty verdict.

City Attorney Herschel Winn, summarises the evidence against

Burleson ushers in the basketball season by playing
Midlothian here next Tuesday, November 20, with boys and
girls bsaketball games at 7:00 at Norwood Gymnasium. A
boy’s ’B' game is scheduled prior to the varsity contest as it
encounters Midlothian’s ‘B’ team at 6:00 P.M. These three
games are available for all basketball “long-sitters" for 25c
for students and 50c for adults.
The High School Basketball schedule is as
various *B’ games to be added at later dates.

returned Sunday afternoon
from a week-end visit with
their son, Robert E. Clark and
family, in Dallas.

Tom Purvis, City Policeman, serving as witness for the city,
answered questions from City Attorney Winn, and the defend-
ant, S. J. Ratliff, who served as his own attorney in Saturday’s
trial. Purvis signed the complaint against Mr. Ratliff.

MRS RUFUS HAYNES
IN HOSPITAL
Mrs. Rufus Haynes is
ceiving medical treatment
the Fifth Avenue Clinic in Fort
Wort hthis week. Her daugh-
ter, Gayle, reports that she is
somewhaat improved, but phy-
sicians advise that she is not
able to have visitors for a few
days. Her room is No. 9.

Miss Minnie Belle Boothe,
teacher in the Anahuac schools,
spent the week-end at home
with her mother, Mrs. C. L.
Booth. She made the trip in
her new Chevrolet, and came
by Waco and picked up her
nephews, Harold and James
Booth, who also spent the week-
defendant S. J. Ratliff, to the jury in last Saturday morning’s
trial. Mr .Ratliff was charged with driving 70 miles per hour
in a 55 mile tone. The jury brought in a guilty verdict and
assessed the penalty at $20.
