Miss Flora Merle Gobbel of
Burleson is one of 29 students
named to the honor roll during
summer school at North Texas
State University.
Miss Gobbel, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Yowell Spann Morgan,
Route 1, Burleson, has a bache-
lor of science degree in educa-
tion.

Offensive scoring was led by Jimmy
Summers who scored twice, one for 60
yards, and David Looney, and Mike
Rial who scored once each. The Elks
line and secondary defensive units
turned in creditable performances in
holding the balanced Frog attack.
Next Thursday, the ‘B’ team goes to
Northwest for district Play.
Change In Dates
The last home games for the Jr. High
and ‘B’ squads will be on Tuesday
night, Nov. 6, rather than on Thursday,
Nov. 8, because of conflicting school
activities during Homecoming Week.
Come out and support these young

The Burleson defensive unit could not
hold the rampaging Mansfield Tigers in
check. During the first half the Elks
led on two different ocasions, 7-0; 15-8.
On the second play of the game,
Burleson halfback Donnie Smith raced
75 yards for the first score of the game.
The Tigers roared back with a 26 yard
tally by Womac with the 2 points added
by a pass from Hudson to Patterson.
Later, the Tigers pushed to the Elk
three yard line, but on a fourth and
goal situation, Burleson fullhack Sum-
mers intercepted a pass and ran 98 yds.
for a go-ahead score. During the third
quarter, the Tigers massed their offen-
sive push with three scores. Two
touchdowns were made by Tiger half-
hack Gorman and one hyllall. fullhack.
Burleson will play its home-
coming game with Northwest
on Friday, November 19, The
homecoming activities have
started this week.
In the same period. Summers scored
again, this time on a 13 yard fullback
play. The scoring ended in the final
period as the Tigers scored on a 1 yard
smash by Ellis.
The Tigers made 16 first downs to
the Elks 14 and completed 4 passes to
the Elks 3.
This week the Elks go to Lake
Worth. Lake Worth is undefated in
district play, but the Elks hope to upset
the Frogs’ homecoming game.
Burleson Jr. High IFins
The Burleson Jr. High eleven made
it two in a row in district play by de-
feating Lake Worth 20-8 Thursday
night at Elk Stadium. Mike Fortenber-
ry scored twice and Bruce King tallied
W. T. Pollard, 59, 104 SE.

heart attack at his home short-
ly before.

The large city siren, previously used when fire broke out
inside the city will be used only for air raid warnings, Bob Bran-
som, Local Defense Director anounced this week.
The following anouncement was sent out to every home in
Burleson this week, but if you have lost your notice, please clip
this out and keep for future reference.
CIVIL DEFENSE BULLETIN
Until further notice, the use of the siren will be restricted
to air raid warnings only, as follows:
3 to S minute cound-ATTACK ALERT.
This means that an attack is considered a probability. Tune
your AM radio to 640 or 1240 for instructions.
3 minute rising and falling sound-ATTACK.
This means an attack is imminent. Take inside cover im-
mediately.

We hope it is never necessary to use this alarm, but play
safety first, memorize the signals, and act accordingly.
Mrs. Pollard advised this pa-
per Wednesday morning that
funeral arrangements were in-
complete, but that services and
burial would be in McClellan
county.
Mr. Pollard’s body is at
Owens-Brumley Funeral Chapel
A reception, sponsored by
the National Honor Society,
will be given for the ex-stu-
dents. This reception will be
given in the school cafeteria
before the pep rally, which
will begin at 2:00 P. M. The
parade will begin at 5:00 P. M.
on Friday, assembling to start
at 4:30 P. M. on Friday on
Dobson Street. This parade
will consist of floats made by
the Junior and Senior high
school students. The theme of
these floats is regularly sche-
duled television shows. These
floats will be judged on beauty,
Financial Help Sought
For Badly Injured Boy
Friends and neighbors of the J. L. Wal-
lace family, route 1, Burleson, have start-
ed a drive to ask for donations, large or
small, to assist the family in it’s heavy
financial burden of paying for the hospi-
tal bill that is at this time piling up, and
to pay for numerous operations their son.
Jessie, has already gone through with,
with a number yet to be done, and maybe
over a period of several years, trying to
correct the damage to Jessie’s face, 9 year
old son, that he suffered in an accident at
his home October 3.

five years ago. Survivors in-
clude his wife and a son, Gary,
both of Burleson, and a daugh-
ter, Mrs. W. R. Taucer, Buna,

Mansfield Tigers Defeat Elks Friday 34 to 22

Summers, Ercel Lewis, Charlie Bran-
som, Mike Masserang, Bobby Bowland
and Mike Rogers. Offensive depend-
ables also included Steve Russell, Mike
Beard, Eddie Denson, and Jerry Nickle.
The Jr. High team goes to North
West next Thursday night to play the
Texans.
Burleson ‘B’ Remains
Undefeated In District
After spotting the Lake Worth ‘B’
team 12 points in the first quarter, the
Elks roared back to defeat the Frogs
28-20 last Thursday at Elk Stadium.

more, junior and senior grades,
have been nominated for home-
coming queen. This number
will be cut down to three after
another election takes place

also be presented at half-time
of the homecoming game,
which time the name
Homecoming Queen will
anounced.
If any merchant would like
to donate a gift for the queen,
but has not been asked, please
notify the student council.
