THE NURSE SHORTAGE con-
tinues to be a national problem.
In Dallas, Texas, for example,
there will be a shortage of 4,600
nurses by 1985 unless 'positive
action' is taken. Nationally, re-
ports Chemetron Corp., Chicago
maker of medical equipment
which polled a thousand U.S.
hospitals, there is a shortage of
100,000 nurses.

School Bids Are
Opened July 30
The De Leon Board of Edu-
cation opened bids on the new
proposed buildings on July
30. The Haney Construction
Co. and Rose Construction
Co., both of Abilene, were the
two low bidders, with bids of
$219,891.00 and $219,900.00.
Both bids were approximately
$25,000 above the $195,000
bond funds. Both construction
firms are figuring now on
substituting materials and elim-
inating items in an effort to
lower bids to $207,500.00 A
balance of $25,000.00 in the
local maintenance fund would
make it possible to accept
base bids of $207,500.00,
making a total cost of $220,-
000.00, including architect’s
fee.

PROPOSED NEW METHODIST CHURCH
BUILDING. This is a very significant period
in the life of De Leon Methodist Church,
which in the next few months will be build-
ing a complete new Church building on a
new location, according to John Basham, pas-
tor of the church. Rev. Basham says, ‘The
true Church is not a building, for it exists in
the hearts of God’s people. Yet if God’s peo-
ple are to do His work and effectively chal-
lenge others to Hu Way, they must have ade-
quate facilities which are worshipful and at-
tractive. The Methodist Church intends to
strengthen its effectiveness hrough more ade-
quate facilities ", The New Methodist Church
will be located on the beautiful site on which
the High School once stood. This property
This is one of the seasons

owners should be especially
watchful on their shrubs, shade

Welcome To The Festival!!
By Ham Locke
It is well to remember at this point that the Peach and
Melon Festival is an occasion for celebration, for home-
coming, and for being appreciative of the great diversified
agricultural production that we have in this area. It is also
a reminder, 1 think, that we should continue to plan and
to work for diversification, iand to improve our methods
and practices. I should think, that a new slogan might be
adopted which would say. "Diversify and Irrigate”. Areas
in the State now which have both are doing extremely
well, and have a bright future. The prospects for additional
irrigation around De Leon are improving.
It is also ou time for advertising. The Murray Cox progdam
and the press coverage of the Festival are very valuable
to De Leon in many ways. Everyone is requested to be b
booster at all times, aaid especially during the Festival.
So, don't fight the Festival Fever. Get into the Spirit of the
Occasion and have a good time. See you at the Festival!!
