It's Always The Way
Money is a mighty weapon or
attraction, any *ay it is used.
England seeks* our friendship
in the hop* time wo will grant
her an extension of time in
which to pay the billion* .she
owes iis-
France wants our backing be-
cause it will bol ter up her in-
vasion of Germany, and because
she don't w?nt to pay us what
she owes
Italy seeks our friendly con-
sjdeVntion because the i# deeply
iu otir^dfem and can't pay.
Japan smiles sweetly and r<i
ges inwardly because our great
wealth wuuid unable us to place
a great arm.v in the field on
short notice. Japan civets the
Philippines and a slice of our
Pacific coast.
Russia M-eks to throw us into
bo I s he v ism becaufe of the gold
that could be annexed by her
unscrupulous and bewildered
leaders.
Germany envies us and would
win p'ur friendship because she
knows we have untold wealth,
anil are generous to a fallen foe.
The lesser nations of the world
cast longing glances across the
,fee s in the hope that a few of
our crumbs may be tossed their
way.
And all because we have mo-
ney. much money, and they
have little or none.
If we were poor they would
not give us a second thought,
except in the way of conquest.
Money is a powerful weapon,
and it should stay in our own
hands.
We were in a mood to scrap
the other day when a heavy
hand decendwd upon the editori-
al shoulder and brought us to a
sudden stop. But we didn't. A
r substantial farmer pushed a tws
dollar bill at u« with the re-
mark: "I don't know when my
subscriptions expires, but just
give mecoedit, for this anyway "
Don't beat a i timid about try-
ing the same stunt yourself. We
won't sersp.
Many young boys are growing
up in this town whofe futures
•re yet to be carved out. If
taaght the proper use of their
brainpower while young they
will become self made men of
the future, [fallowed to drift
aloug until they arrive at man's
•state they will find greater use
for the hand than for the brain.
Tk«y may not become failures,
bat at best they will simply ba
cogs in the machinery of better
Mea.
