How in the world (he- federal tiovi-rnment
with a debt of Fl trillion and a tremendous
liability tn its own pension svstem can start
telling state's like- Texas ho* to run their business
is beyond all understanding ami logic. Mr Hall
■aid
Recently Mr Hall was appointed Chairman of
a House* Judiciarv Subcommittee with juris-
diction over regulatory reform, a vital element m
Congressional and Xdministration efforts to curb
the ante of the Feeler al Government
It ses'ms contradictory to tell the American
people that efforts are underway U> get the
Federal Government off their backs in one
instant, and in the very next instant deregulation
ia thrown out the window in favor of Federal
interference with stale pension plans," Mr Hall
concluded
Representative Sam B Hall, Jr says he is
opposed U> legislation expected to be considered
soon by the House of Representatives
preempting Slate laws governing the operation
of public employee pension plans
According to Congressman Hall. ■ bill has
been favorably reported from the Houae
Committee on Education and Labor that would
signifi' j,itly impact on State retirement plans
The measure has also been referred to the House
Ways and Means Commtttoe. which has
jurisdiction over its taxing provisions
"If passed .a its present form, this bill would
discriminate against a Stele like Texas, which
has achieved an actuarially sound pension
program for its rmi ‘
The Employees Retirement System of Texss
recently contacted Mr Hall in opposition to the
MU. he said
