She is reported to be improving.
Christopher (Chris) Farmer, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Farmer, was admitted
to McCuistion Medical Center Hospital
Wednesday, Dec. lb, and underwent
surgery on Thursday, Dec. 17th.
Upon their
arrival in America they strengthened
the laws against this holiday, and
possibly the true reasons emerged:
Christmas was too frivolous and
Popish for their tasts.
Ho! The Puritans, with a finger
in every pie and a toe in every tart,
tried to impose their ideas on all
the Colonists.
And indeed, they were quite
successful in many quarters! Christ-
mas was banned!
However, these hardy zealots had
not counted on the New York Dutch
Catholics, who simply smiled at
their efforts and made merrier.
And soon, certain forms of the
celebration began to occur in the
hard core Puritan colonies, despite
the threat of pillory, whipping post,
arid ducking stool (usually reserved
for shrewish women) The young
Puritans would have their Christmas
celebrations! It was just too much
f un!
Finally, the Puritan elders
looked the other way, smiled to
"patted their foot,"
And thev

celebrating Christmas.
"And a Merry Christmas
did to all a Good Night!"
