Tips
State Representative Mark Homer visited the government dual
credit classes of Mrs. Judy Falls. He presented the students with a.
Texas flag that had flown over the Capitol. In addition, he talked to
the students about redistricting and its effects, the upcoming spring
special session regarding school finance, and other issues of interest
to the students.

Cooper High School student Adrian Wilkerson was recently named
2003 All-State Player by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches
Association and was presented a certificate.
Adrian is the son of Leslie Wilkerson and the late Alvin Wilkerson,
the grandson of Marvin and Marie Morris and Fred and Nadie Wilkerson
and the brother of Vernard, who is attending the University of Monroe.

goal and got ready to receive the
ball HG surprised CHS with an
onside kick and recovered the ball
on Cl IS' 40-yd line. On 1 “ down 1IG
got an illegal block penalty moving
the ball back to the 50-yd line. Dove
trapped the runner in the backfield
on I” down for a loss of a yard. On
2nd and 21 HG lost another 3-yds on
a tackle by Pederson and McCarty.
HG had an incomplete pass on 3,d
down and had to punt and CHS took
over on its own 30-yd line.
CHS ran twice and passed once
but were unable to move the ball
and had to punt. HG fumbled the
punt and CHS recovered. On the I”
play CHS completed a pass for 8-
yds before being stopped by
Walker. I IG ran 4 plays and on a QB
keeper scored. The extra point try
was good and the score was CHS
14. HG - 14 with 3:50 left in the 3'd
quarter.
Williams took the kickoff at the
10-yd line and returned it to the 22-
yd line of CHS. With good up front
blocking Gunn broke into the clear
on the left side of the line and the
race was on. Two players from HG
took off after Gunn and they had a
little of an angle. One of them hit
Gunn on about the 5-yd line and he
fell into the end zone for a TD. The
78-yd run had all the CHS fans up
on their feet cheering. The run was
a real boost to CHS and seemed to
break the spirit of HG. 1 he try for
the extra point was good and the
score was Cooper 0-21. Honey
Grove - 14.
HG took Preas' kickoff on their
10-yd line and return to the 25 before
being stopped by Chase Pederson.
HG got 10-yds and was stopped by
McCarty and Eaton. HG then lost
2-yds on a tackle by Wilkerson and
Pederson. On 2nd and 12 HG
completed a pass for a gain of 6-
yds before being stopped by Jones.
A 3'd down pass was incomplete and
they punted on 4,h down. Moses
took the punt and was run out of
bound on the 26 of CHS.
CHS did not move the ball on I”
down. On 2nd down Walker went
left and then cut up the field and
Williams got to the 6-yd line around
the right side. Williams then scored
on the left side with 7:39 left in the
half. The extra point kick by Preas
was good and the score was Cooper
14. Honey Grove-0.
CHS kicked off and HG took the
kick on the 10-yd line and returned
it to the 30-yd line before being
stopped by Eaton. Jason Choate,
and a gang of other Bulldogs. On
Ist down HG tried to run but Jones
hit the runner and he fumbled.
Moses was there and recovered the
ball to give CHS the ball on the 28-
vd line of I IG.
On I ' down. CHS had a holding
penalty making it I'1 and 20. CHS
was not able to move the ball on 3
plays and on 4th down there was a
fumble and HG recovered on the 50-
yd line.
I IG ran right and got 9-yds before
being stopped by Jones. On2"dand
I HG got a I'1 down on the 38-yd
line of CHS before being stopped
by I larmon and Dove. HG then got
6-yds on a pass before being
stopped by Walker. Dove then
stopped a run on the 27-yd line of
CHSaftera I'1 down. HGgot2-yds
to the 25 before being stopped by
Dove. Harmon, and Pederson. On
2n and 8 McCarty and Douglas got
into the backfield to get the runner
for a loss of 10 yards. With 3,d and
16 HG tried to pass but it was
defended by Moses for an
incompletion. With 4,h and 16 HG
was able to complete a pass for a
TDwith 1:12 left in the l”half. The
extra point was good making the
score Cooper - 14, Honey Grove
7 HG kicked off and CHS ran three
plays to end the 1” half.
The half time performance by
CHS was great. The band has
completed second step in the road
to state competition on Saturday in
Longview and came home with the
right to go to state in San Antonio
on November 3,2003. I know they
will do well there and 1 feel they have
a good chance to win there also. If
you have not heard the band you
should make arrangements to hear
them as they are special.

and Preas kicking the extra point

Preas kicked off and I Ki took the
ball on the 4-yd line and was
stopped on their 27-yd line by
Moses. On I 'down HG lost a yard
on the right side being tackled by
Kris Walker. I IG ran left and gained
5-yds before being stopped by
Ross Scholta and Pederson. 3,d and
six I IG tried their right side but lost
4-yds being stopped by Douglas.
Jones, and Pederson. On 4'h down.
HG tried a field goal, which was
blocked by Moses, and CHS took
over on their 40-yd line.
On 1 ’ down Cl IS fumbled and IK i
recovered giving them the ball on
CHS' 40-yd line. Walker stopped a
run on the right side for a loss of a
half yard. On 2nd down the QB kept
the ball and went left for 3-yds
before being stopped by McCarty ,
Pederson, and Eaton to end the 111
quarter.
The teams changed ends of the
field and on 3,d and 7 HG lost a yard
being stopped by Dove and
Douglas. HG then had a delay of
game penalty and on 4'h and 16 they
went into a standard formation but
then executed a quick kick and the
ball went into the end zone for a
touch back. The ball was placed on
CHS' 20 and on I" down Williams
gained 8-yds on the left side CHS
then lost a yard on 2nd down. On 3'd
down Gun got enough yards to the
30-yd line for I "down. Wilkerson
then got 8-yds up the middle. On
2nd and 2 Gunn broke loose for a 44-
yd gain being finally caught from
behind on the 16-yd line of HG.

It was a good night for a football
game. The weather was great and
the stands on both sides of the field
were full of supporters. Each team
needed a win to help their hopes of
being in playoffs. I he winner of
this game should be in playoffs but
they may have to wait to see which
one. Both teams seemed ready to
play and the crowds in the stands
were all excited.
Jud Preas kicked off with the ball
being taken on the 10-yd line of HG
and returned to the 28-yd line of HG
where Kyle Thompson and Aaron
Eaton made the tackle. HG tried their
right side and was stopped by Josh
Douglas and Kolt Pederson after a
gain of a yard. They then tired the
other sides of the line and were
stopped by Traye Moses and Eaton
after a I ” down on their 39-yd line.
On I “ down Thompson stopped the
runner for a loss of a yd. HG then
tried a pass but it was incomplete,
defended by Eaton. On 3ld down
HG passed deep but Eaton again
was successful in the defense
making 4,h down for I IG. I IG was
rushed by Thompson and Moses
getting off a short kick giving CHS
the ball on their own 49-yd line.
Dewaylon Williams ran around
the left end and got to the 41-yd
line of HG before being stopped. On
2nd down Williams went up the
middle for a gain to the 29 of HG.
CHS fumbled on the next play and
HG recovered on their 29-yd line.
HG tired the left side of the CHS
line and got 5-yds before being
stopped by Spencer Harmon. Tom
Dove, and Jarvis McCarty. On 2nd
down McCarty and Brien Jones
broke through he blocking and
threw the runner for a 4-yd loss.
Moses successfully defended a 3rd
down pass attempt and HG punted
with the ball ending up on the 46-
yd line of CHS.
Williams going left was able to
break a couple of tackles and get to
the44-yd line of HG fora I "down
