The North Sulphur Drainage Asso-

this summer was to have he'd its next
meeting at Cooper last Saturday, but
not a single member came. It is un-
derstood that the reason they did not
hold the meeting was that they had

that the committee had decided that
it was useless to try to organize a
district and vote a drainage tax until
the laws can be amended and that no
effort will be made to do anything un-

'distance from the American border
and were well on their way they sud-
denly ran afoul of a band of Mexican
rebels about 150 in number, who ab

parley proposed to line them up and
shoot them as spies. The Americans
tried to convince them that they were
not spies and one of them showed
them a deed he had to land and a plot
of his mining property to convince
them that they were not spies, but
were interested in the country.
The Mexicans couldn’t be convinced
and made the five men stand in a row.
A bunch of Mexicans stepped out to
shoot them and awaited the commands
of the officer, who had them co pre-
sent and make ready. The Mexicans
had their fingers on the triggers and
the next command would have been

Mollie Bailey will make her annual •

.October 2nd. This is one n the old-
est shows in the state, and while
there is little change in the personel
of the players each year, yet th 2 show
is always attractive and everybody
goes, due largely to the personality
of its founder, Mollie Bailey. Many
years ago it was a very small affair
. and was carried over the country in
wagons but it has for several years
traveled in especially fitted coaches.
Cooper people are always glad to have

near Negley, eight miles northeast of
Bagwell, was riding in a heavy body of
timber a mile and a half east of Neg-

the bones.
It being nearly night when the grue-

The surroundings were too uncanny
for him to tarry to make an investiga-

found it and went at once and reported
the find to some of his neighbors.
They decided that they would go to
the place and make an investigation
today. Sheriff Joe Brackeen was noti-

would go to the place to assist them
with the investigation, and he suggest-

A special train bearing one hundred
and fifty Greenville boosters under
the auspices of the Chamber of Com-
merce paid Cooper an appreciated vis-
it Thursday on their itinerary fr<(m
Greenville to Paris where they os-
tensibly visited Lamar County fair.
They arrived at the station al 9;55
where they were met by twenty or
thirty members of Cooper Board of
Trade. After exchanging greetings
i they formed in double file Cooper
[citizens preceding the band which the
'boosters” carried and were led to
the court house in the center of the
square.
After some music Mr. R. M. Walker
in a few well chosen words called on
Sen. Jno. L. Ratliff who welcomed the
“boosters” to our town and turned
over the keys to them. Mr. George
"Levey, 3 merchant of Greenville, re-
sponded with some pleasing and com-

Cooper and her business meu high
compliments.
After half an hour spent in gett-’ng

over concrete walks (something the
“boosters” are not used to at home)
and proceeded on to Paris. Short stops
were made at Klondike and Enloe.
