A VEGETABLE
ELECTRIC BATTERY.
Scientists tell us that there has been
discovered in the forests of India a
strange plant which possesses in a
very high degree astonishing electric (
and magnetic power. The hand that
breaks a leaf from it receives instant-

duced by the conductor of an induct-
tive coil. At a distance of six meters
a magneic- needle is affected by it.

Plans for the .big State District
'conventions are going forward, and
■indications point to a 'arge attendance
of Sunday school workers, from nearly
every county in the state, upon the
convention nearest to them.
The program at these places pro-
vide for a great schqol of methods,
to be conducted by trained experts
upon every phase of the work,
addition to nottki state talent,
(fortunate in securing workers of
tional reputation to assist also.
The first five conventions of the
series will be held as follows;
Marshall, Sunday, September 1st,
to Tuesday night.
Sulphur Springs, Wednesday, Sep-

Hamilton, Monday, September 16th,

The tour party of experts will be
accompanied by Wm. A. Brown, the
noted International Specialist, who is
one of the most magnetic speakers on
the American platform, who will at-
tend the first three conventions. The
music will be superbly conducted by
J. L. Blankenship, the Baptist singing
Evangelist of the Southern Baptist
Missionary Board and a noted leader
of song. He will be accompanied by
Mi^s Mildred Dixon at the piano who
truly delights the audience. Other

Reports from all points on the Tex-

corn prospects show
(average conditions:
Cotton—No change in acrearge
from last season. Crop in fine condi-
tion and at present time outlook is
slightly above normal. Good rains
all along line first part of August
were of material benefit but delayed
maturity of crop from two to three
weeks. No drmage has resulted so
far from insects, and under present
weather conditions, movement should
be in full blast by September 15th.
Corn.—Seven per cent increase,
in acreage. Condition averages twelve
per cent above normal; however, in a
few localities the crop was damaged
these principles, but Judge Pounders,
a prominent East Texas politician,
who was chairman of the committee,
I opposed them and i efused to endorse
same, whereupon another chairman
had to,be selected who was willing to
subscribe to the initiative, referen-
