Fay Lancaster visited with her
daughter and son-in-law, Karen
and Welch of Mesquite Friday
September 6 through Monday 9,
2002. Friday she attended the
football game between the John
Horn Jaguras and the Forney
Jack Rabbits at the Mesquite
Memorial Stadium, and watched
great-granddaughter Ashlee
McRae perform at half time with

In LK’s next possession, they
tried three running plays and then
had to punt. Howse stopped the
first run and Bonds stopped the
next two. After the punt. Cooper
started on their own 48.
Cooper ran two plays and
slipped on third down, losing four
yards. They punted, and after a
penalty, LK took over on their own
25. On LK’s second down, a
long pass was tried, but AD
Wilkerson knocked it away. After
a reverse on third down, LK
gained a first down. After four
plays, LK connected with a 27-
yard pass for a touchdown with
4:00 left in the first half. The kick
was good, bringing to score:
Cooper - 0, LK - 7.
LK kicked off and Jason
Choate recovered the ball on
CHS’s 43. On first down, Tatum
connected with Phillip Gall, who
made a difficult catch on a high
pass for a 9-yard gain. CHS was
able to make a first down on the
next play, but three incomplete Gall, Wilkerson, Traye Moses,
passes later, ended the first half
with a score of CHS - 0, LK ’- 7.
Both bands performed their
respective routines at half time
with Cooper going first. Both
sides of the field enjoyed the
performances of the bands. The
marchers of the week for this
week were Paden Brown and
Daniel Hinley. It is also great to
see two of the football players and
two of the cheerleaders march
with the band. It is great to see if
a child wants to do sports and
band, they have the opportunity
to do so. 1 was very impressed
with the number of band parents
who were there and how they all
seem to be involved in the band.
I believe our band will be
outstanding for many years to
Blane Hefley, Jeremy Glossup,
Spencer Harmon, Jordan Archer,
and Kolt Pedersen. The try for
the extra point was blocked with
1:40 on the clock, making the
score LK -13, Cooper 0.
Cooper took the kickoff and
ran three plays, punting on the
fourth. LK then ran out the clock.
It was a hard fought game with
both sides being well matched.
The game could have gone either
way as Cooper played hard and
with a break or two, could have
won. The defense certainly came
forth in this game. The team
appears to get better each week
and I think we may have a good
season.
To the players and their
families: The numbers of the
come if this type of support jerseys are so hard to read 1 am
continues.
To start the second half,
Cooper took the kickoff and
started on the 43-yard line. They
were able to make a first down in
three plays, but received a 5-yard
penalty to make it first and fifteen.
On third down, there was a
their first race of the season and
for some it was their first long
Teresa competitive race ever, said
Coach Denise Yankie, Cooper
Cross Country coach.________

It’s about a two-hour drive to
Linden-Kildare but there were still
a lot of fans there. The band was
there with a lot of their
supporters. They all wore white
band shirts, and the stands around
the band were full of friends and
family who went to support the
band and the football team. One
nice thing about the field at
Linden-Kildare is that it runs east
and west, so neither side has to
look into the sun. It was a
beautiful area and a nice-looking
facility.
Meeting in the middle of the
field for the coin toss were
Captains Shey Stegall, JR Tatum,
GW Howse, and Brandon Bonds.
After the toss, Cooper took the
east end of the field and kicked
off to Linden Kildare. The ball
was returned to LK’s 24 yard line
who returned it their own 39
before being stopped by a gang
of bulldogs.
On first down, LK had a high
snap and was moved back to their
18-yard line. They then ran two
running plays being stopped by
Rand Woods on the first play and
Brian Jones on the second play.
With fourth and long, LK punted
and Cooper took over on their own
46. Stegall picked up 5 yards over
a right tackle, but on second
down, LK intercepted a pass and
took over on their 35-yard line.
LK ran 3 plays and punted, with
the ball landing on CHS’s 11-yard
line.
After two plays, the
quarterback was caught in the
backfield to make it fourth and
fourteen, and Cooper punted.
On first down, LK fumbled
with CHS recovering the ball to
start on LK’s 45. Stegall picked
up two yards on the first down
but CHS fumbled on second down
with LK recovering the ball on
their own 47. LK fumbled on first
down but recovered the ball. On
third down, Hadley Shafter and
Wood stopped the run to make it
fourth down and LK punted to
Cooper who took over on their
own 21-yard line.

fumble but Tom Dove recovered
it and Cooper kept the ball, but
failed to make another first down,
turning the ball over to LK.
The ball switched possession
three times, with neither team
scoring by the fourth quarter. On
the first play of the fourth quarter,
Gabe Willoughby tackled the
quarterback after a gain of a yard.
On fourth down, LK received a
penalty making it fourth and six,
in which they punted the ball.
Tatum got four yards on a keeper,
but on second down. Cooper
fumbled, luckily being recovered
by Dove. On third down. Tatum
found Marquis Dunn over the
middle and caught the pass just
off the ground for a first down at
the 46-yard line. Cooper had an
incomplete pass on the first down
and then received a 5-yard penalty.
Cooper was trapped on third
down and punted. LK ran eleven
plays to score again. In that
series, tackles were made from
