Mrs. Mabel Hunt Owens, au-
thor of this column, broke her
hip last Tuesday. She under-
went surgery on Wednesday.
She is in St. Joseph Hospital
in room 401.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar C. Hewett
of Pine Cliff, Colorado, spent
Friday until Monday with his
mother, Mrs. O. M. Hewett.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Reed and
Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Baird of
Fort Worth came to Mrs., Hew-
etts for lunch Sunday.

Austin. They plan to attend
the reunion of the 'Burleson I
High Ex-students at the home

next Saturday.

Corporal Alexander E. Gran-
tham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Grantham of 200 Noble St,
Everman, recently participated
in a Guerilla War-Tactical Ex- -
ercise while serving with the
First Battalion, Fourth Marine
Regiment, Third Marine Divi-
sion on Okinawa.

Girl Scout Troop 353 had a
rededication and investiture
ceremony, a World Association
Pin Ceremony, a court of
awards and a fly-up ceremony
ht the home of Assistant Scout
Leader Mrs. Jerry Fehse last
Wednesday, May 26.
During the investiture a can-
dle was lighted for each of the
three parts of the Girl Scout
Promise. Ten candles were light-
ed during the Rededication, one
for each of the Gir£|&out Laws.
Three girls wefre accepted into
scouting: Carrie Messer, Mary
Wyatt and Nancy Crews.
The World Association Pin
is worn by Girl Scouts and Girl
Guides all over the world.
Seven scouts explained the
seven parts of the emblem. Six
scouts were presented their W.
A. pins: Marene Couch, Susan
Leake, Mary Wyatt, Carrie Mes-
ser, Kelly Crews and Nancy
Crews. : ,
Fourteen Proficiency Badges
were presented in the Court of
Awards. Six girls received My
Community badges.'The purpose
of the badge is to find out about
our community . . . it’s history
and the ways it helps the people
who live here. Those receiving
the badge were Patty Elleven,
Tammy Armstrong, Betty Har-
vey, Julie Fehse, Beth Metheny
and Susan Leake. Six scouts re-
ceived Art in the Round badges.
The purpose is to make sculp-
ture from different materials.
Those receiving these badges
were Susan Fehse, Robin Bailey,
Laura Lemma, Darlene Tyson,
Deanea Sappington and Rhonda
Fehse. Patty Elleven received
two additional Badges; Collec-
tor and Troop Camper.
A Fly-Up was conducted by
members of Cadette Troop 391,
Jeanie Elleven, Lisa Leake and
Elizabeth Shaw. Also present
was Cadette Scout Leader Mrs.
Charles Elleven, Jr. One Scout
f l e w up to Cadettes. She is
Kelly Crews.
A large cake with a message
of. appreciation for the Scout
Leaders and punch were served.
Scout Leader Mrs. Jimmy Lem-
ma crocheted beaded rings and
presented them to Mrs., Fehse,
Mrs, Harvey, and Miss Roderick
for their help with the scouts
this year. Mrs. Fehse was given
a covered casserole dish for
having the scout meetings at
her home when they were not
able to meet at the Methodist
Church.
June 16 the Scouts will meet
to work on their Cyclist badge.
The purpose is to know how to
ride a bike safely so they can
take trips this summer.

- Pamela Sue McKay
Pamela Sue McKay, 22, of
Route 2, Box 152, Mansfield
passed away Thursday, May 27
in a Fort Worth Hospital. She
was a lifetime resident of the
.Mansfield area. She was a mem-
ber of Tate Springs Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her husband
John Lewis McKay; daughter,
Angela Michelle; mother, Mrs.
John McDougall; sisters, Mrs.
Mike Warnick and Miss Becky
McDougall, and grandmother,
Mrs. Ada Conder all.of Mans-
field.
Funeral services were held
Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Moore
Funeral Chapel, 4912 E. Lan-
caster, with the Rev. Roy Buck-
elew officiating. Interment was
in Emerald Hills in Kennedale.

CHAPTER of
EPSILON SIGMA ALPHA
Mrs. Theodocia Craig, 94, of
309 Pendell, Cleburne, passed
away May 28 in a Fort Worth
hospital, following a lengthly
illness.
She was born in Illinois Oct.
25, 1876 but had spent most
of her life in Johnson County.
She is survived by one son
Forrest Craig of Garden Acres,
six grandchildren, eleven great
grandchildren and two great,
great grandchildren, and a num-
ber of nieces and nephews..
Funeral services were held
Monday in Jones Funeral Chap-
el with Rev. George Willis, Pas-
tor of Field Street Baptist, Cle-
burne, officiating.
Pallbearers were Eddie G.
Craig, Julon Martin, Allen Mar-
tin, Earl Fowlks, Bob Morgan,
Wayne Prickett.
Interment was in
Cemetery under the direction
of Jones Funeral Home.

chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha
had its annual installation of
officers and awards banquet in
the First Baptist Church fellow-
ship hall.
The officers for the coming
year are: president, Norma
‘ Retta’’Baptist Church* is in, a Hollingsworth; vice president,
Lois Van Zandt; secretary, Von
Ratliff; treasurer,. Linda Wil-
liams; educational director,
Milia Martin, and parliamen-
tarian, Adrian Phillips.

Lois Van Zandt performed the
Jewel Pin Ceremony and pre*
sented the following members
their jewel pin: Linda Beiders,
Diane Browder, Kay, Burrows,
Andra Latham, Janelie Perry,
Pat Robertson, and. Karen War-
low.
The First Pearl Awards were
presented to Von Ratliff, Pat
Robertson, and Linda Beiders.

Held For Mrs. Craig Wesleyan Class
The Wesleyan Sunday Schopl
class of the First United Meth-
odist Church met Wednesday,
May 26, at 2 p.m. in the home
of Mrs. Bessit Fern Cowsert on
North Main, for a program,
business and social meeting.
Mrs. Cowsert was assisted by
Mrs. F. G. Jeffrey.
The meeting was called to
| order by Mrs. Cowsert. Mem-
I bers responded to roll call with
a Bible verse.
Following the business meet-
i ing Mrs. Jeffrey led the pro-
gram on “Prayer of Praise’’.
She used as her scripture Ro-
mans 16: 25-27.
“Seven Days of Wonder”,
with scripture for .each day,
was read by Mrs. Cowsert.
Reading a scripture in unison,
-was the benediction. During .the
social hour Mrs. Cowsert and
Mrs. Jeffrey served cake,i Visitors In Hillsboro
doughnuts, coffee and tea, to - Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Wilshire,
the following members: Mmes. Mrs. G. R. Shannon and Mrs.
Kyle Easley, teacher, C. M. Aubrey Russell spent Sunday in
Parks, J. W. Ketn, Elsie Bair- Hillsboro with Mrs. Ed Shultz.
