Mrs. Ben Hill Hostess
To Mary Martha Class
Spray Pecan
Trees Now
Visitors at the luncheon were
Mrs. Jack Lawson, Little Missy
Miller, Messrs. John and Ben
Bransom and Gilpin.
Mrs. Ben Hill was hostess to
the Mary-Martha Sunday School
class of the First ~ Baptist
Church, at her home on Renfro
Street, Thursday night, May 19.
A covered dish supper, consist-
ing of fried chicken, fresh vege-
tables, salads, cake, pie, hot
rolls, tea and coffee, was serv-
ed.
. Mrs. Ed Williams gave the in-
vocation.
After .the meal Mrs. Leslie
Johnson brought the devotional
entitled, “Nails,” bringing out.
the tought that small nails are
just as important as large ones.
Her scripture was taken from
Ephesians 2:8-10.
A season of prayer was held
following the devotional. Those
present were: Mmes. D. M. Bar-
rett, Ed Williams, W._ C. Mose-
ley, N. B. Mullen, Leslie John-
son, Geo. Ayers, A. F. Higgin-
botham, L. H. Hardgrove, Miss
Ruby Robbins and the hostess.
when the insets will emerge you
can use 25% wettable Mala-
thion powder at the rate of
three pounds per one hundred
gallons of water. Malathion
doesn't last long on the trees.
Direct your spray application
towards the tiny nut clusters.
Try to cover them well. Don’t
worry too much about covering
the leaf area.
If you have any questions .
give me a call or come by and
I will be happy to help you.
By BOB WALSH
Get your spray rigs out and
prime them for a spraying job.
Our old friend the pecan nut
casebearer is about to start his
annual trouble making spree. It
looks now as though the time to
start applying our insecticides
to control this insect will be
the last week in May. Ordinar-
ily we have only a few days in
which to get our spray on the
trees. It looks like this year we
are going to have a longer peri-
od of time because the insect
is emerging at such irregular in-
tervals.
If possible you should apply
your first application during
the last week in May and an-
other application about two
weeks later. A third application
may be in order in about forty
day, but we will have to wait and
see how well we controlled the
first generation.
My recommendations on in-
secticides to use may not fit ex-
actly what you will want to use.
I only recommend material that
has been proven out in repeat-
ed tests. 50% wettable DDT
powder at the rate of three
pounds per one hundred gallons
of water has been very effec-
tive. You can’t graze cattle
under these trees if you have
used DDT. Two pounds of 80%
wettable Sevin powder per one
hundred gallons of water is
about the best recommendation
as far as I am concerned. If you
