San Angelo — The mourning
dove bearing band number
1153-76344 is probably a bird
that enjoys travel but quite
likely hasn't read the books that
say most doves migrate north
to south, or south to north, in
their migration flight.
The bird was banded July 10,
1969, in eastern Louisiana, near
the town of Peck, and was
harvested by a hunter near
Brownwood, Texas, on Septem-
ber 18, 1969. The dove had
moved about 10 miles per day,
almost due west, for a distance
of about 600 airline miles. <.

Public Hearings
Held Recently By
Wildlife Dept.
Austin — The Texas Parks
and Wildlife Department re-
cently held four public hear-
ings in Austin dealing with
beach cleaning and mainte-
nance, construction of boat
ramps, licensing of mobile busi-
nesses on public beaches, and
issuance of collection, propa-
gation and zoological permits.
Most of the discussion on the
first three items centered
around request for more infor-
mation on the proposed policies.
None of those seeking clarifi-
cation of policy offered any
suggestions for changes when
the policies were explained.
The fourth item dealing with
collection, propagation and zoo-
logical permits brought the most
comment.
Dr. Dan Willard of the Uni-
versity of Texas Biology De-
partment, and Grainger Hunt,
a graduate student in zoology
at the University, offered sev-
eral suggestions for the im-
plementation of the Depart-
ment’s policy.
Department officials will re-
lay the commenta and sugges-
tions to the Commission who
will make the final decision on
Department policy.
The candlefish was dried and |
used as a torch by Indians.
