HBVFD election coming up
The four incumbents plus two others are seeking seats on the
board of the Hudson Bend Volunteer Fire Department < HBVFD).
Dan Brinkman. Don Swan. Jimmy Williams and Bob Wixxlward
all hope to retain the positions they currently hold on the board.
A A. "Skip' Ferris and Sally Harty are also candidates for four
two year terms up for election.
Absentee voting will be held from noon to 6 30 p.m. Friday and
Monday. Sept 9 and 12. at the Central Fire Station. 16000 General

The election will be held from 9 a in. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept
17. at the central station
Optimists set charter banquet
The Lake Travis Optimist Club has been officially chartered since
July, but the club will get its banner and other paraphernalia at
a charter banquet to be held Saturday. Sept 10. A cash bar will
open at 6 p.m. at the Lakeway Inn for charter members of the club
and their guests The dinner will be at 7 p.m. Call club president

Kids' moms to meet Fridays
A play group has been formed in Lakeway to bring children and
mothers together weekly for friendship and socialization. The group
is geared to children f rom infancy through 4 years of age and their
mothers One objective is to offer the children a method of
socialization while enabling mothers to visit, especially if they are
new in the community
The group will meet in a different home each week on Friday
afternoons for about 216 hours. For more information or to learn

GOP women to hear judge
Judge Lykes of Houston will be the speaker for the September
meeting and salad luncheon of the Austin Republican Women s
Club Lake Travis women are encouraged to visit the oldest
Republican women s club in Austin. The event will begin at 10:15
am Thursday. Sept 8. at the Bush "Victory '88" headquarters.

Reserve a booth for Pioneer Day
A display of antique cars is just one of the activities planned
for Pioneer Day. an annual event of the Hudson Bend Volunteer
Fire Department (HBVFD) Ladies Auxiliary. There will also be
booths for arts and crafts and businesses who would like to adver-
tise their wares or services. Call Gloria Daniels at 266-2550 about
showing an antique car or Donna Lockwood at 266-2710 about
renting booth space. Reservations for the spaces should be made
as soon as possible.
Pioneer Day will be held from 9 a m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept
17. at the Central Fire Station on RR 620. A bingo game starting
at 7:30 p.m will end the day’s activities. The event is a fundraiser
for the HBVFD. which serves as “first responder” in emergencies.

"Ecumenical Day." with
volunteers registering voters at
their places of worship, and voter
registration going into the
classrooms of Travis County col-
leges and universities on Tuesday.
