We ask our Carrollton readers
P-.ia’.ly to consider the article
Prof. M, L. Hankins in this
sue. The thought suggested
that children retrograde in their
s' idles during long vacations de-
serves > prions meditation. Most
cl ildren will have very little to
do for two or three months yet,
and it js for their lifelong benefit
that they should !*• in school.
AN AVERAGE MAN.
When the weathuh man gits tired
Sendin' all of this here rain.
'Spect we’ll see a rainbow archin'
When the sun comes out again;
And the cold an' wet’ll scamper
Like they iiad a thousan’ feet,
An' if you meet me about Junetime
I'll be cussin’ drouth an’-heat.

Are you a booster or are you a
knocker? I f you are of the latter
Hass you had better move on or
step aside and let the procession
pass, for the progressive element
has no time to listen to your im-

What every country needs is
g mmI roads. The movement that
is now sweeping the state cannot
receive a too hearty support from
the people.
It is said the exceedingly cold
weather was produced by the
spot that has just been discover-
ed . n the sun. We hereby sug-
gest that if anyone is caught put-
ting spots on the sun that his
punishment be assessed at tick-
ling the h^els of Maud and trust
to that animal to do the rest.
This town may not need any
sidewalk improvements, but it
.■••rtainly appears that good side-
w dks in certain pla es would be
very convenh nt.
h has been a long established
fact that the local (taper is the
indispensable medium through
which the business men who have
bargains to offer reach the peopje
who want bargains. We invite
t>i r readers to read closgly our
a< v.-r'.ising columns that they
may Iniaw where to trade to get
bargains. The progressive mer-
chant does not merely advertise
io ’’catch ” you once, but the
i hronicle’s advertisers d > what
they say and when you want Imr
gains mx n our column and gov am
yourself arc rdingly.

1 and cotton to be consigned. By paying cash for supplies
I you will be able to buy from whom you please, and at the
3 lowest possible price, and effect a saving in your living ex-
1 penses. If you are now holding cotton, we will be pleased
9 to receive same on storage in our warehouse, where it will
N be protected from damage and insured, and on which we
■ will make advances at reasonable rate of interest.
What haveyou thought of doing
for your town this year? Have
yon thought of any step that
should be taken for its growth?
Are you waiting for a sudden in-
spiration to do something and
then intend to act upon the im-
pulse of the moment? Perma-
nent and steady growth requires
philosophical thinking and plan-
ning. If you are interested in
your town’s growth, study out
some plan whereby such may be
accomplished, acquaint yourself
with its feasibility, prepare your-
self to answer and offset all ob-
jections that may be offered, and
then present it to the vitis?ns of
the town. You, can convince
someone your plan is a good one,
and he in turn will convert some-
one to your caupe and thus the
leaven will spread and the first
thing you know the entire town
will he with you.
Carrollton needs some better
means of fighting fire. Should
tiie break out, a little systematic
work might save a great deal of
property.

Who .ire offering their patrons
an opportunity of a free trial of
the wonderful healing remedy,
Paracamph, First Aid to the in-
jured. The remedy has become
popular in a remarkably short
space of time by its great suc-
cess in curing the aches, pains
and hurts of millions of people.
Dallas County people should know
the value and merits of Para-
camph,-and to enable them to do
so without risk or loss of money
these gentlemen have produced a
plan. “Being fully convinced of
the merits of Paracamph. all you
have to do, says Mr. Bennett, is
to deposit the price of a bottle at
our drug store, or at Mr. Broad-
hurst’s store at Farmers Branch
and take home a bottle of 1’ara-
camph, give it an honest trial,
and if not satisfied, tell us and
we will return your money.”
No remedy on earth compares
with Paracamph for the cure of
rheumatism, swelling and neu-
ralgia, sore throat, croup, sore
muscles, catarrh, eczema, sprain,
bruises, sore feet, cuts, burns
and hurts of every description.
Paracamph absolutely prevents
blood poison, Paracamph soothes
and heals like magic. No house-
hold should be without a bottle
always on hand.
If you receive a card making a
special offer to you for a trial of
Paracamph, bring it to our drug
store with out detab

Personal prejudice should cut
n.< tig ire in any vublic enter-
prise. If there should be some
«•’! whom you dislik., at the head
<>f some movement for the good
of your townor community, petty
differences should be relegated
;<» the rear and all work together
lor the common interest.
While at Gainesville last Sun-
day we had the pleasure (?) of
visiting the office where we suf-
fered, bled and died last summer
and fall and was finally kicked
out because we would not con-
sent to work twelve or fourteen
hours a day without extra com-
pensation. The proprietor was
not in, but the foreman was, and
he greeted us with a sickly
“howdy do" that would have
chilled a nigger camp-meeting.
We claim to be no bright and
shining light to the craft, but
there are times when we butt
into a propssition that tends to
cover our dome with premature
gray hairs and makes as feel like
passing into innocuous desuetude.
O teinpores! O mores.
