The high school addition, to double the
student capacity for classrooms, will
now probably be built with budgeted
funds, the superintendent noted The
school district had originally planned to
issue 1500,000 in construction bonds to
finance part of the project
Original estimates for cost had been
$16 million, instead of the accepted bid
for just over one million dollars
Meanwhile, Baker strongly opposed
Jones' request, saying that an extensive
environmental study has already been
made
...winter studies made
Earlier this spring, a group of In-
gleside area residents and two other
citizens petitioned opposition to State
Rep W O. Harrison's House Bill in sup-

More than 75 signatures were included
on the petition A copy was forwarded to

Rejecting two lower bidders. Ingleside
school trustees voted May 12 to award a
$1,058,900 contract to Utley-James Con-
struction of Corpus Christi for the In-
gleside High School expansion
Contract is expected to be signed in the
next week, according to Supt. Gilbert
Mircovich. Construction will begin short-
ly on the addition behind the present high
school building
It will be completed by June 1984 in
time for the 1964-85 school year, he add-

to award the contract, there were three
The studies even included a mid-winter
bird count held last December by a rep-
resentative of the Coastal Bend Auduboo
Society.
“Basically,, he saw no birds," Baker
said, regarding the representative’s ob-
servation.
Williams said that the area was studied
extensively from 1981-83 by Baker and
the Corps and by another firm from
1973-77.
No impact was found on any birds.
Williams noted the Audubon Society's
concern about the project's effects on
brown pelicans nesting at Pelican Island
He pointed out that the island is two
miles from the proposed Baker's Port
site, across the busy Corpus Christi Ship
Channel
