Abder said he is from Sho-
bak in Jordan, a city about
the size of Enid. However,
there the similarity ends.
Shobak is the highest point in
Jordan and its main source of
income is through agriculture.
During February, according
to Abder, the temperatures can
drop to 22 degrees below zero
and the snows can accumulate
to 11 feet high.
“We are not allowed by the
government to wear our hair
long, like the “Beatles”, he said
and added, “there are special
police to see that people keep
up their appearance and stay
well groomed. The police will
jail people who look upkempt.”
Mr. and Mrs. Haddad and
their children are among 13
families in the Enid area who
have offered to be sponsors

With their guest, the. Haddad
family of 513 S. Hoo\ er sat
down to a splendid Thanksgiving
dinner of “Lifit”, “Mashrot”
and olives. Thanksgiving had
a Mid-East flavor Thursday as
Abderrazzaq Abdelhamid Hab-
ahbeh was the guest of Mr. and
Mrs. Kay Haddad and their chil-
dren, John, 17 and Jana, 10.
Abder is a student pilot at Vance
and is from Jordan.
The Haddads are sponsoring
the student as are some other
families in Enid.
Abder, a second lieutenant
in the Jordanian Air Force,
said of American hospitality,
“I was told the Americans are
the friendliest people of all
countries ... I find that this
is so.” He said he had been
stationed prior to being as-
signed to Vance at Kelly Lan-
guage School, Kelly AFB, Tex.
He has also visited in Kansas.
Hadd..d’s parents, who reside
in Norman, are from Lebanon
and he and Abder have good
rapport in Arabic.
