carnival held Friday, Octo-
ber St, were Roxann Minick,
a junior, escorted by Ricky
Payne, and Virginia Green, |

Ronnie Hammond. Crown
bearers Were Neal Jones
and Allen Parris and flower
girls were Tammie Mills
and Cindy Hammond. .
The proceeding day, Wednes-
day, November 5, at 12:50 p.m.
an accident involving a 1975
Chevrolet pickup driven by
David J. Stone of Kilgore and a
1970 Chevrolet driven by James
Mark Lewis of Clarksville was
reported at a point 6.5 miles
north of Mt. Vernon on State
Highway 37.
Stone was reported to have
been attempting a left turn onto
the Helm road and was struck
by the Lewis auto which was
attempting to pass on the left as
it too was traveling south on
Highway 37.
No injuries were received,
and light damage was reported
to both vehicles.
Lewis was cited for driving
left of center tranversing
intersection.
Officers report the filing of 38
miscellaneous violations along
with two DWI violations during
this same period of time.

The Dickson’s granchildren,
six boy and one.girl, and their
posit iona held are: Mark Hare,
end, Mike Jaggers, fullback,
Stan Dickson, guard, Dave
Jaggers, defensive safety,
varsity football; Joe Jaggers,
tackle, eight grade; Steve
Dickson, tight end, junior
varsity; and Marcia Hare,
cheerleader. Football Sweet-
heart.
Mrs. Dickson was presented
with a dozen long stemmed red
roses by Charles Godfrey,
president of the Mt. Vernon
Quarterback Club. Godfrey
pointed out that to his
knowledge this was the largest
group of children or grand-
children participating in the
athletic program that had
aminated from one couple.
Each senior member of the
varsity team was recognized
along with his parents. Mem-
bers of the Mt. Vernon Varsity
which are seniors Include Jim
Solomon, Mark Hare, Mike
Jaggers, A. D. Bell, David
Maxton, Bill Jackson, Doug
Evans, Charles Deloney, Dale
Hill, Jerry Bogue, Bruce
Hunnicutt, Bryan Martin, Mark
Byrd, Mark Whiteley and
Jimmy Herrera.

ASSOCIATION
Two Accidents Reported ,
Texas State Highway Patrol-
man Wayne Foster reported
the investigation of two traffic
accidents the week of Novem-
ber 4 through IL One accident
resulted in the admittance of
one person to Franklin County
Hospital for treatment of
numerous cuts and lacerations.
Willie Grant of Pittsburg was
admitted to Franklin County
Hospital following an accident
involving the 1973 Volkswagen
which he was driving. The
accident occurred Thursday,
November 6, at 4:00 a.m.
approximately 300 feet west of
the 423 overpass in the east
bound lane of 1-30, when Grant
reportedly fell asleep at the
wheel of the auto.
The car took a path to the left,
leaving the pavement and
turning over twice in the
median before coming to a
halt. Heavy damage was re-
ported incurred upon the auto.
More than a million patients
each year occupy hospital bbds
provided by the Veterans
Administration.

United States Naval Aviation.
Presently, he is serving as a
Tyler City Councilman and
Mayor Pro Tem, a director in
the Tyler YMCA, on the
executive committee of the
East Texas Council of Govern
ments, and he recently helped
organize the Texas Good Air
Service Association and is now

Sunshine Club
Slates Meeting
The Sunshine Club will meet
November 19 at 2 p.m in the
home of Mrs. H. R. Pugh for an
afternoon meeting. Each mem-
ber is to take her own sewing
serving as vice-chairman of
that organization.
Mr. Layton is active in many

sional organizations. He is a
Scottish Rite Mason, York Rite
Mason, Shriner, and a member
of the Sharon Temple Stage
Band.
Among his business and
professional activities, he has
served as Past President of the
Tyler Rotary Chib and Past
Governor’s Group Representa-
tive. He is a Past President of
the Mechanical Contractors of
Texas, the Construction Indus-
try Council for Manpower and
Research, the East Texas
Chapter of the American
Society of Heating, Refrigera-
tion, and Air Conditioning
Engineers, the East Texas
Chapter of the Texas Society of
Professional Engineers, and
Past Chairman of Tyler
Goodwill Industries.
He is a Life Member of the

Mr. Layton is a member of
