A hard blow was struck Mt.
Vernon’s eighth grade tn the
first field event, 440 relay,
when they were disqualified
because the exchange of the
baton from the third man,
Fred Sims, to the anchor
man, Stevie Joe Evans, was
made outside the exchange
zone.
Eighth grade competitors
placing were Fred Sims in the
discus with a throw of 118*7”.
Billy Easley finished third in
the pole vault with an 8’ Jump,
and Greg Hendrix was part of
a three way tie for sixth place
with a 7’ vault. Stevie Joe
Evans set a new meet record
when he cleared 5*4” in toe
high jump. David Cams
cleared 5’ to take sixth place.
Donald Banman finished first
in the 880 yard dash
time of 2:21.4, and tea,
Tim Bass came in thir
2:22.9. Stevie Joe Evkns came

Cates, Fred Sims and Stevie
Joe Evans.
Mount Vernon’s Jerry Coo-
per took second place in the
ninth grade discus with
114’1%” , then put the shot
36’8%” to take third place.
Colin Henry vaulted 8’6” to
place fifth in the pole vault.
Gaining points in the 880 yard
dash were Ezra Steel,
finishing fourth with 2:24, and
Mark Arnett, finishing fifth
with 2:24.7. Brad Lowry
finished fifth in the 220 yard
