After the “feed” the husbands
took their wives on at a game of
darts, and later they played “In-
dications.” The party broke up
around ten, with the boys agreeing
that it was mighty successful.
From where I sit, it’s this com-
panionship among young couples
today, and their moderation in a
sensible beverage like beer, that’s
won the younger generation such
a wholesome reputation.

The clatter of hoofs reminds
us there are horsemen here at
cow-

William Allen both have nice
saddle horses which they exer-

most, if not quite, stealing the
show out there at the rodeo, were
other riders too. such as Audrey

. . . We find it interesting some-
times to listen in on some of
those tales about St. Lo, in
France, and the battles there . .
especially when they tell about
how the big shells sounded and
how hard it was to dig fox holes
in frozen ground, or in that
ground which was just like ce-

didn’t make much progress digg-

must have been exciting when Le-

hauling all that hay at night, can
be seen cooling off in the pool

be considered either late or early
. . . We won’t say for sure
whether Betty Jo Moore is the
lifeguard at the pool or not, be-
cause of the number of calls for

plans to fall into the pool and be
rescued had to be cancelled when
it became known that she some-

we wonder if all that ability and

I catching that other one in 7.3

Leon . . . We’ll have a state
champion roper here yet . . . with
more practice Walter Nicholson
will make even better time than
that 34.6 seconds tie-down he
made in the first go Ground . .
Royce Parr can do considerably
better than that 41.2 seconds too
and we’re betting on Clarence
Gregory next time .• . . With a
little competition experience
Henry Schroeder should be equal
to the best there is . . .■ The good
form and riding ability shown by
Farley Boyd Turk and Bennett
Ray McElroy helps made a classy
show in any arena . . . Leroy
Schindler is our idea of a top (
hand too only he has been spend- ,
ing lots more time with books
than with young Brahma calves
. . . Things were looking good
for Hallettsville when H e n r y
Schroeder roped and tied that fast
calf in 26.1 seconds Saturday af-
ternoon ... We need more ropers
like Rudolph Schindler and Jeffry
Koonce, and more cutting horse,
trainers like Martha Lynn Nesrs-
ta . . . that was just a stubborn
calf Martha Lynn picked out or
she might have won the contest
. . . Seventh graders Bobby and
Elstner Appelt are just starting
out and with more training ana
experience they should have
everything Scooter Fries has, if
not more . / . Bobby has tough
luck according to his m ot h e r,
Mrs. Lula Appelt who said the ,
. ■ to describe how guinea feathers
reason Bobby didn t compete in
the last two days was ’cause he *
had misery in his stomach and
had to go to bed . . . That was
Gaynelle Rees doing most Of the .
yodeling . . . Some'of the songs
the patch on black land instead of
in that sand where it can drown
out easy ... Rrto Gummelt had
a nice load of melons and that
tractor-trallerful of Leroy Blu-
daa’a added considerably to the
total of 45 thousand pounds Rto
win and Leroy , have already
hauled in . . .
Last week’s theatre tickets
went to Mrs. V. B. Gerdes . . .
This week we plan to give tw>
free Cole Theater tickets to th*
man who went on a hunting and
fishing trip with his three sons
and didn’t get anything except
that one fox which walked right
into , their camp awakening them
. . . so to follow thru, We’ll have
the free tickets walk right to
their door also . . .
