1386 Oak Street Abilene, Tens July 21, 1959 Rep. Truett Latimer House of Represenatives Austin, Texas Dear Mr. Latimert I am charge attendant on the South Wing of the General Hospital at the Abilene State School and my husband is charge attendant on ward 32 which is a combina- tion of three wards. Therefore we were very closely associated with Dr. Curtis. In our opinions he was discharged under rather severe, and in our opinions unfair, circumstances. We were told at the time Dr. Curtis was introduced to us as a group that he did not have a Tens license, and nothing was mentioned of the necessity for him to obtain one as none of the other doctors employed had Texas licenses. liowever since that time one has regained his license and the other has recently taken his State Board examination. In regards to the other qualifications for being a medical doctor, we do not feel we are qualified to say, but we do know that his written orders on the patients' charts were very similiar to all the other doctors' written orders. What impressed us most about Dr. Curtis was his personal intrest in the patients' welfare, and his concern for the employees. He was constantly striving for better medical care and living conditions for the patients, and more pleasant working conditions for the employees. Therefore you can understand why we wanted to express our appreciation for the good Dr. Curtis did here at the Abilene State School. Thank you very much for the time you have given to us by reading this letter. Sincerely yours, Ruby Johnson and Lewis Johnson
