Dear Truett:
I am not sure whether or not you talked to me about this
particular case earlier in the Spring since we handle some
2, 000 cases connected files each month. Usually when any
person comes in to discuss a case, a notation is placed in
the file but I find none in this instance. It therefore, may
or may not be that you discussed this case with me.
Truett, the problem here is that this girl is not eligible
for parole consideration under the statutes and will not be
until May of this year, according to the information sent
to us upon her admission to the Texas Department of Correc-
tions.
Dusty and others are asking for a 90-day reprieve because of
the destitute circumstances of the family due to an injury to
the husband. Before the days of parole, reprieves were
granted in some instances in lieu of a conditional pardon.
Under our present set-up, the only reprieve granted are what
Is called emergency reprieves due to critical illness or death
in the immediate family of the inmate, or in cases where the
inmate is ill and cannot be treated properly in prison.
I would like to help these people and I certainly would like to go
along with my good friend Dusty, but it looks like now that we
are going to have to wait until this lady becomes eligible to be
considered for parole. Of course, if her husband or any of the
