Sheriff Brown was telling the
other day of an incident that hap-
pened in December while ihe was
attending a convention of County
Tax Assessors and Collectors in
Austin. They were discussing the
matter of taking tax books to other
towns of the county from the county
seat on certain days in order to make
it snore convenient on the taxpayers.
After considerable discussion oik °f
the men spoke up and said: 1 would
not let my poll tax receipt book

and dollars.

Last week we received subscrip-
tion from L. H. Minshew, former
Peacock barber. Along with his
subscription he sends a few notes:

Thanks, P. C- Them are good

It is not rnuch trouble to stop
and give a kind word to our fellow
men as we along, but how few of
us put this into practice?
There is not any ohing that can
accomplish so much, and costs so
little, as a few words of praise#.

It may be true that this county has
a few whom might be tenmed as
undesirables, hut the ratio will run
much lower than in these same pla-
ces than make fun of our populace.
Hurray for Stonewall County, in
the Heart of West Texas.
One notable trend during 1948
was that of the weak knocking off
the mighty- Such things as Truman
heating Dewey, Navy tying Amyy,
Southern Cal. matching the mighty
atf lovly TCU at
the Champa SMU.
All of which 8ia|>tjr jgoes to prove
that determination will succeed over
complacency. The matter of keep-
ing alive the hope of success is far
more important in the winning fight
staged by those who didn't have a
chance .... but didn't know it.
So keep plugging along, partner,
the rest of the world may not give
you a chance, but as long as you
don't find it out, you have a likely
chance to succeed.
